A 1930s suburb in western Columbus

A well-established neighborhood, Lincoln Village comes with houses from the 1930s, quiet streets with well-maintained roads and sidewalks, and an easygoing suburban atmosphere. “There are a lot of older homes here, and people just tend to stay a very long time,” says Heather Smith, a Columbus-based Realtor who has sold homes in the area for 20 years. She adds that a client moved to the neighborhood just to be closer to family already there, buying a house from a resident who had been there “for more years than I can count.” A few small parks and shopping centers are available, and there are some warehouses and industrial buildings to the north, but the noise level stays low.

Brick-sided homes and a long-lasting community

“The neighborhood is behind West Broad Street, so behind all the shops and retail,” Smith says. “There’s not really a lot going on in Lincoln Village.” The neighborhood is divided between the brick apartment buildings to the south, behind retail centers, and the old-school suburbs with 1930s homes and narrow streets, just south of the warehouses and industrial supply buildings. This separation makes the suburban area quiet, leaving all the activity along West Broad Street. Brick homes with Colonial Revival and classical elements like white columns and steepled roofs make up the neighborhood. Lots are around a quarter-acre or less, with large oak trees or simple flower beds out front. Houses range from $200,000 to $350,000, though most in the area are priced around $250,000 for bungalow or ranch-style single-family homes. Some split levels are available near the higher end of the neighborhood’s price range. Due to the industrial plants to the north and car emissions from the Outerbelt, Interstate 270, that borders the neighborhood, Lincoln Village residents may need to watch out for air quality alerts. Columbus frequently experiences low air quality due to ozone omissions, though these alerts tend to happen more in the summer.

Shopping and dining at Lincoln Village Plaza

The area is split between the warehouses and the residential streets leading to West Broad Street, where residents can visit several restaurants and shops. Lincoln Village Plaza shopping center has various fast-food chains and a Giant Eagle for groceries. The plaza also hosts a few sit-down restaurants, like Taco Nice, a low-priced taco joint, and El Barco Mexican restaurant. Mi Casita Venezolana is a primarily Latino supermarket in the same plaza. O’Toole’s Irish Pub and Grill occasionally offers live music and has DJ performances on Fridays. Just south of the neighborhood, Hollywood Casino sometimes features local and national artists playing live music, and residents can enjoy five different restaurants on the property.

Five stops with COTA buses

Winding sidewalks circle the neighborhood in long stretches, making walking anywhere outside the suburb inconvenient, as it almost doubles the travel time. Despite being so close to downtown, Lincoln Village is very car-dependent, but it does have five bus stops through the Central Ohio Transit Authority around West Broad Street. Downtown Columbus is less than 10 miles away, and West Broad Street and the nearby Interstate 270 are the primary routes into the city. The OhioHealth Doctors Hospital is inside the neighborhood, and John Glenn International Airport is 15 miles away down Interstate 670.
