With more shoreline than any other city in the Metroplex, unfolding along Lake Lewisville is Little Elm. 33 miles north of Dallas and 54 miles from Fort Worth and neighboring Frisco, Little Elm is a peninsula with several planned neighborhoods offering amenities and HOAS. "We love it here in our Shell Beach neighborhood in Little Elm. I don't think we could find a better place to call home," says Steve Petrasic, President of the Shell Beach HOA and resident for the last 17 years. "Little Elm has grown over the past ten years; despite this, the town hosts community events that give it that small-town charm." Offering a nature-centric lifestyle with a tight-knit community and the conveniences of the city nearby, Little Elm is a town with a heart of water.

Make sure to bring bug spray when visiting Little Elm Park
Along with kayaking, paddleboarding and fishing, Little Elm has five main community parks. "When we first came to Little Elm, I joined the Parks & Recreation Board to be involved in our community," Petrasic says. "That Board remains in place today, with several P&R-related projects, including The Cove waterpark, The Rec and The Lawn at The Lakefront™ that have helped the community. " One the shores of Lake Lewisville, The Lakefront™ at Little Elm is a beach and entertainment destination. Locals rent kayaks or paddleboards from DFW Surf when it's warm out and join a beach volleyball game at one of the ten waterside courts. The 4-mile Lakefront Trail has an access point from Beard Park, where visitors test their balance at Hydrous Wake Park's giant inflatable obstacle course.

A jam-packed annual event calendar in Little Elm
March is Mardi Gras time and residents lace up for the Juneteenth Freedom 5K in June and fill the park's amphitheater on Friday nights for a free concert series. In celebration of Independence Day, the July Jubilee fireworks display is the town's largest single-day event. The three-day Autumn Fest in September is an end-of-summer celebration that includes a day for Oktoberfest. In December, a Christmas parade and tree lighting with fireworks kick off a month-long holiday carnival called Lights on the Lake.

Coastal living in Shell Beach
Among the town's more than two dozen neighborhoods, newer subdivisions of custom contemporary and new traditional design include Prairie Oaks, Frisco Ranch and Union Park, which offer many family-friendly entertainment options. Petrasic lives in Shell Beach, in the southern part of Little Elm, which broke ground in the late 1990s and is near the Cottonwood Creek Marina. Prices can range from $465,000 for a home built in the early 2000s to $1 million for direct water access to Lake Lewisville. New constructions are abundant in Little Elm, and many locals get flood insurance due to its waterside location.

Trips to Frisco for shopping
Aside from recreation, Breakfast at Leo's Brunch House is an adored staple for its friendly service. Tinman Social is on Main Street and draws crowds for its burgers, beers, bowling alley and arcade. Though there are few shops in the city, Little Elm Towne Crossing is on East Eldorado Parkway, with a gym and a few stores. Nearby are Sprouts Farmers Market, Kroger and Walmart for groceries. Little Elm neighbors like to shop locally on Saturdays at the Farmers Market at The Lawn™ on Main Street. However, Frisco is only 5 miles away, with access to a robust entertainment district and big box stores.

Zoned between three school districts
Three school districts serve Little Elm, including the Little Elm ISD, Denton ISD and Frisco ISD. The Little Elm Independent School District students include Chavez Elementary, Walker Middle and Little Elm High School. "With one high school, it gave us a sense of knowing one another. Many of us watched our kids grow up together in the local sports leagues," Petrasic says. The elementary school earns a C-plus, while middle and high school earn a B or above. The high school offers several advanced academic programs, such as dual credit and enrollment, and the Lobo Collegiate Academy, a collaboration with North Central Texas College.
