The heart of growing West Little Rock

Rock Creek is an area in the ever-growing West Little Rock region. This increasingly popular part of the city is known for its various housing options, from accessibly priced, midcentury properties to newly built, sprawling homes. The location also has quick access to state and city parks and the Arkansas River, as well as upscale dining, an array of shopping and easy highway access. “West Little Rock has been developing ever since I was a little kid, and it’s going to keep developing,” says Ray Ellen, Team Leader for Pixel Properties with REAL Brokerage and a lifelong Arkansas resident. “It’s a good mix of higher-end new homes and not as higher-end, older neighborhoods.”

Midcentury and modern alike in Rock Creek

Homes in Rock Creek range from two-story brick and wood structures from the 1970s and 1980s to newer traditional-style houses built in the 2000s. Single-family homes tend to range between $250,000 to $350,000. Several townhomes and condos are also available that usually cost around $100,000. Stand-alone homes typically have large front and backyards, wide patios and winding driveways shaded by oak and hickory trees, while condos and townhomes are built into tight communities along main roads. Some subdivisions of the neighborhood also have additional amenities, like Villages of Wellington, which provides its residents with a pool, tennis courts and a private lake.

At the foot of Pinnacle Mountain and Arkansas River

While Rock Creek is dotted with private parks in individual subdivision communities, the area is also close to several public recreation spots. Rock Creek Trail is easily accessible from an entry point on Bowman Road and is a heavily wooded 3-mile path popular with runners. Two Rivers Park is less than 10 miles to the north of Rock Creek and is a 1,000-acre stretch of gardens and paths along the Arkansas and Little Maumelle Rivers. River Mountain Park, a 10-mile system of mountain biking trails, is also built into Two Rivers. Pinnacle Mountain State Park off Chenal Parkway is 6 miles west of Two Rivers Park. The state park is filled with miles of hiking and mountain biking trails and access to the two nearby rivers for canoeing, kayaking, and paddleboarding. “In five minutes, I can be in my home in Little Rock to hiking the base of a mountain; it’s pretty rad,” says Ellen.

Arts and science education at Parkview or Hall High

Local families are served by the Little Rock School District and can send their children to schools like Terry Elementary School and Pinnacle View Middle School, which received a C and B-plus rating on Niche, respectively. Two nearby magnet high schools allow students to take specialized classes alongside their general coursework. Parkview Arts and Science Magnet High School scores a B-plus on Niche and focuses on art curriculum like music and drama, while Hall STEAM Magnet High School has a C rating on Niche and has coursework related to engineering and health science. The University of Arkansas at Little Rock is just 8 miles away from West Little Rock for a nearby higher education option.

Drive to downtown Little Rock on I-430

The neighborhood is not far from Interstate 430, so residents of Rock Creek can easily drive throughout the state or hop on the highway to drive the 10 miles east toward Downtown Little Rock. Like the rest of Little Rock, Rock Creek is served by Rock Region Metro, which has a few stops along local streets like Napa Valley Drive. However, most locals prefer to take their own cars wherever they need to go.

Upscale dinner out at Arthur’s Prime Steakhouse

A casual lunch or dinner experience awaits at Lazy Pete’s Fish and Shrimp on North Bowman Road, where diners can sample Southern and Gulf Coast cuisine like seafood and wings. Locals looking to treat themselves to some fine dining can try Arthur’s Prime Steakhouse on Chenal Parkway, which offers Australian wagyu, Japanese Kobe and a private wine cellar with over 300 varieties.

For everyday shopping, Rock Creek Square Plaza is a retail hub just off Chenal Parkway and has a mix of hobby stores, pharmacies, and grocery stores like Sam’s Club, Trader Joe’s, and Whole Foods. The shopping center also borders the Baptist Health Medical Center campus, which is the largest non-profit hospital in the state.

There are lots of local restaurants around, but most of the stores are chains. Not many mom-and-pop shops. There is a lot of variety in the stores though.
