A Little Rock neighborhood between nature and commerce

Sitting in the shadow of Pinnacle Mountain, the Valley Ranch neighborhood of Little Rock has not yet reached its peak. As Little Rock expands its development west, the community continues to grow, adding not just amenities but opportunities for homeowners. “It’s about the only place in Little Rock where new homes are being built,” says Scott Hurley, an owner/broker at Arkansas Land and Realty who also lauded the neighborhood’s variety of shops and restaurants. As modern as the living in the neighborhood may be, it is also close to several green spaces, keeping both outdoor lovers and homebodies happy.

Craftsman homes and wide sidewalks

The neighborhood is mainly Craftsman homes with brick or stucco exteriors. Homes often have gardens on their lawns and multi-car garages. Wide sidewalks encourage strolls through the neighborhood. The community’s home values have steadily increased since 2020. Homes on the neighborhood's western side can range from $300,000 to $400,000. Homes on the eastern side, which tend to be larger, can go from $450,000 to $725,000. There are also some lots and large parcels of land available for around $75,000 per acre. The neighborhood has a CAP Index Crime Score of 2 out of 10, lower than the national average of 4.

William Kirsch Preserve has kayaking and biking

William Kirsch Preserve, located within Ranch North Woods, has more than 3 miles of trails and contains nearly two miles of the Little Maumelle River. The area is overseen by The Nature Conservancy. Caleb Pierce, a land steward with The Nature Conservancy, says most people use the preserve as a quiet place to walk and look at wildlife, which can include deer, foxes and bald eagles. Pierce says kayaks are also offered free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis. Pinnacle Mountain State Park, just north of the community, offers 14 miles of challenging bike trails or a hike to the mountain’s apex, which is more than 1,000 feet high. Less than 5 miles away is the Wildwood Park for the Arts, a 105-acre park that contains botanical gardens and a 625-seat theater complex, which holds performances of shows like “Peter Pan.” The Ranch athletic complex has nine soccer fields.

Little Rock Central High challenges its students

Students are served by the Little Rock School District and the Pulaski County Special School District. Students can attend Don R. Roberts Elementary School, which received an A grade from Niche. Pinnacle View Middle School has a B-plus Niche grade. Little Rock Central High School, which holds an A grade from Niche, offers a magnet program in international studies.

Baptist Health Medical Center is a short drive away

Arkansas Highway 10 borders the neighborhood. It is around a 15-mile drive to downtown Little Rock. Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport is about 20 miles away and Baptist Health Medical Center is less than 10 miles away.

Milano's Italian Grill makes everything in-house

Milano’s Italian Grill makes its sauces, bread and pasta from scratch. Izzy’s restaurant has been family-run since 1985 and has butterfly and honeybee gardens on its premises. The Red Moon Tavern serves specialty pizza and cocktails in a modern environment. Ninja Bar Sushi & Grill has a traditional hibachi menu and sushi offerings. A nearby Walmart Supercenter has groceries. Less than 5 miles away, the Promenade at Chenal shopping center has Apple, Sephora and DSW among its merchants.
