Wakefield bosts lower price points

Wakefield is a residential enclave with natural flair. Locals of this Little Rock community relish the green expanse dotted with lakes and creeks, as well as the lower price points and proximity to shopping and downtown. “It’s a very affordable area. Most of the homes go for $140,000 to $210,000. It’s a good area for first-time homebuyers and investors,” says Shani Green, principal broker for Green Realty Associates, who lives in the area. “It’s extremely close to the freeways. You could probably get to Downtown Little Rock in 10 to 15 minutes. It’s about 5 minutes from the new outlet mall, Outlets of Little Rock. Shopping, dining — it’s convenient to everything.”

Wakefield offers vintage and new construction

Wakefield teems with brick ranch homes from the 1950s and ‘60s. Most are situated on roomy quarter-acre lots with tidy front lawns and backyards adorned by mature oak and maple trees. More contemporary construction in subdivisions that features amenities such as golf courses and pools, can be found here as well. The average sale price hovers around $150,000. A three-bedroom, two-bath could cost as little as $100,000, while a four-bed, three-bath new build may fetch as much as $650,000. Roughly half the residents here rent their homes. “Like a lot of places in the country, the market here has slowed down significantly,” Green says. “It’s normal for homes to sit for more than a month.”

Little Rock School District schools

Public school students may attend Bale Elementary, Cloverdale Middle and Little Rock Southwest High School. Part of the Little Rock School District, the elementary and high schools earn C Niche grades, while the middle school scores a C-minus. Home of the Gryphons, a mythical creature that’s part lion and part bird, the mammoth three-story, 400,000-square-foot high school opened in 2000 at a cost of more than $100 million and features a 4,000-seat football stadium.

Paty’s Gorditas is a local favorite for dining out

When locals are in the mood for authentic Mexican dishes, they head to Paty’s Gorditas on Geyer Springs Road. This family-owned restaurant brings its recipes from Aguascalientes, Mexico. For some local flavor, stop by H.B.’s Barbecue on Lancaster Road. This self-proclaimed hole-in-the-wall has been serving barbecue in the community since 1961. There are also quite a few local taquerias for residents to sample. Weekly grocery shopping can be easily accomplished at Kroger by following Geyer Springs Road for 2 miles outside the neighborhood. Bargain hunters will appreciate that Outlets of Little Rock is just 5 miles away via Interstate 30 West, hosting nationally known shops such as Banana Republic, J. Crew, and H&M.

It's a pretty good, civilized, area . I haven't had any problems here at all and if i had a choice to live here again i would. I would compare this area to walking in a family reunion, it feels like a homely place. I would see the area for retirement.

Little Rock is one of the most dangerous cities in the country but it also seems calm and peaceful. Its easy to stay out of trouble but some areas are ruined, washed up, and seem unsafe to be. There are cops around to keep an eye out but sometimes it can take time for a cop to show up to a scene. It makes a life threatening gesture but to see them roaming around the streets usually seems ironinc.
