Rebuilding after the storm
Prior to March 31, 2023, Walnut Valley was known as a small neighborhood that blended natural elements and modern amenities. But after a devastating tornado that came through Little Rock, many houses in Walnut Valley were destroyed and a wave of residents moved out. After a year of rebuilding and community effort, the neighborhood is slowly coming back as properties, lots, and streets are cleaned up. Walnut Valley also maintains its closeness to rolling hills, rushing creeks and a hub of restaurants and shops, providing many benefits to those who choose to stay in the community.
Midcentury homes with remodeling potential
Homes in Walnut Valley are predominantly brick ranch-style houses and midcentury split-levels, most of which were built in the 1970s and 1980s. Houses are built on curving roads dotted with large front and backyards, wide driveways and shade from tall buckthorn trees. Due to damage from the storm, price ranges are on the low side for West Little Rock and range from $150,000 to $355,000. “In West Little Rock as a whole, there are only four or five main neighborhoods where prices range from $200,000 to $300,000, and these are really good first starter homes,” says Ray Ellen, team leader for Pixel Properties with Real brokerage. “There is the opportunity to find homes in the older neighborhoods to make them into beautiful West Little Rock homes with a lot of character.”
Walnut Valley primarily consists of single-family homes.

Recreation in the “Natural State”
The landscape of Walnut Valley is filled with hills, waterways, and fields, and there are multiple ways to enjoy the neighborhood’s scenery. “It’s a friendly atmosphere,” says Ronald Armstrong, secretary at the local Terry Elementary School. “And there’s plenty of lakes and parks and great outdoor spaces. You can see why they call Arkansas the natural state.” Butler Park on North Rodney Parham Road is the perfect place for locals to play baseball or have a picnic alongside a bubbling creek. Just north of the neighborhood, Pleasant Valley Country Club on Pleasant Valley Drive offers a highly ranked 27-hole championship golf course, a club pool, tennis courts and a clubhouse with views of the club’s private lake. Locals can still be active without going outside when the weather does not cooperate. One popular option is Arkansas Skatium on Bowman Road, the only dual skating facility in the state, where visitors can strap on either ice skates or rollerblades for a cruise around the ice arena or roller rink.
Foodie hub along North Rodney Parham Road
Walnut Valley is just north of North Rodney Parham Road, which has dozens of dining spots located less than a mile apart. North Parham has something for every tastebud, whether it’s home-cooked southern favorites at Homer’s Kitchen, hot coffee and tea and fresh pastries at Guillermo’s Gourmet, or Czech and German cuisine at The Pantry. Not to be forgotten, Shotgun Dan’s Pizza is on the southern side of Walnut Valley on West Markham Street and is known for its piles of toppings and homemade crust. Just south of Shotgun Dan’s is a large retail district off Financial Centre Parkway. Here, locals can pick up everyday groceries at Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods Market, browse for home goods and books, or spend an afternoon climbing, jumping, and tumbling at Urban Air Trampoline Park.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

I love the beauty in Little Rock. Love the nature and weather. Only thing is worrying about crime. We've had things stolen and don't feel the safest although it is for the most part safe.

Little Rock is okay for bars and drinking. It makes me miss nashville so much more though.

The people around where I live do not have high paying jobs and probably do not want to be doing what they are doing.
