Homes with equity in sublime Chicago suburb known for lovely lilacs
One of North Lombard's key locales, Lilacia Park, takes its name from its famed collection of lilac flowers. The city has kept the park's plant life thriving for almost 100 years, helping Lombard earn its nickname -- "The Lilac Village" -- and landing on the National Register of Historic Places. The community around the park celebrates its collection with the annual Lilac Time festival each May, where residents can attend the Lilac Queen pageant, concerts held in the park, wine tastings and the Lilac Parade. Throughout the rest of the year, residents enjoy a peaceful day-to-day in a Chicago suburb with a prime location, vivid plant life, distinctive shops and acclaimed schools. "Lombard is right smack dab at the middle point between downtown Chicago and Aurora. It's a good, solid hub, accessible because there are major roads in extreme proximity." says Ryan Carney, a Realtor with Keller Williams Inspire. Carney is a former resident of the area and has sold homes in the village for more than 5 years.
Well-established homes in the Lilac Village
A varied set of single-family properties are available in Lombard, including Cape Cod, Colonial Revival, ranch-style homes and split-levels. Properties were established as early as the 1910s and as recently as the 2000s. "There's a lot of equity in Lombard because they're not new homes; it's already completely built out," Carney says.
Entry-level homes in the market include smaller two- and three-bedroom properties and a few larger homes, typically requiring repairs or updates and sold as-is. These properties generally start at around $222,000 and top out near the $300,000 mark. From there, most move-in ready homes are sold from $300,000 up to $685,000. A select number of large homes with four bedrooms or more than 3,000 square feet of space can reach up to $925,000.
Multifamily home options in North Lombard include condominiums, a few duplexes and townhomes. Dedicated condo buildings date from the 1950s to the 2000s, while townhomes are generally more recent, first showing up in the 1990s and continuing into the 2000s. Prices range from about $120,000 to $490,000.

Floral arrangements, disc golf and fishing at Lombard area parks
Situated on the northwest side of the area, Lilacia Park was the city’s first public park. Donated to the citizens of Lombard in 1927, the park gets its name from the 200 varieties of lilac flowers that call the park home; visitors can also see more than 35,000 tulips. The park is also one of Lombard's main locations for community events, including the Lilac Time festival in the spring and family movie screenings in the summer.
Lombard Common is one of the main park areas at the center of the neighborhood, providing amenities like a disc golf course, a 1-mile walking trail and Paradise Bay Water Park, which stays open from late May through the end of August. Near the southeast end of the neighborhood, Sunset Knoll Recreation Center and Park tucks spots for fishing, play dates and sports games into a 36 acre corner of green space.

Lilac Time events in spring, Oktoberfest and Spooktacular in the fall
As part of the Lilac Time celebrations each spring, Lilacia Park and the blocks nearby are home to the Lilac Mutt Strut, an annual event where participants can register for a 1 mile or 5K run/walk. Racers can take part in the event with or without their dogs. The park is also home to the Little Lady Lilac Ball during the festival, where fathers and daughters can bond and dance among the flowers.
During the fall season, Noon Whistle Brewing is a prime spot to celebrate Oktoberfest in town. A live Bavarian band performs under a pop-up tent in front of the brewery, while the brewery itself serves up fresh pours and food. Folks can also visit Noon Whistle throughout the year for themed trivia nights, live comedy, artisan markets and other seasonal parties. Autumn family fun awaits at other events in downtown Lombard, including the Lombard Park District’s Fall Fest celebrations and downtown Lombard’s Spooktacular Halloween block party. Winter events in town include the Jingle Bell Jubilee, which includes a tree lighting ceremony at Lilacia Park and tie-in celebrations at stops around town.
