Lomira is ideal for Milwaukee and Appleton commuters
Home to under 3,000 people, Lomira is a small Wisconsin village between Fond du Lac and the Horicon Marsh State Wildlife Area. “Its location is one of the biggest factors for living there,” says broker Jason Zellner with Zellner Real Estate. “It’s right on Interstate 41, for when you don’t want to be in a large community but still want to be near the amenities those offer.” Neighboring cities like Fond du Lac support immediate needs residents might have, while commuters can head up to Appleton or down to Milwaukee, while enjoying the more affordable housing offered in the Fond du Lac area. “If you are working in the metro Milwaukee area, you can definitely save money and get a more spacious yard and more square footage on your house,” Zellner says.
More afforable homes in Lomira with more space than Milwaukee
Nationals, split levels, ranch-style homes and New Traditionals sit alongside wide streets where trees hang over the front yards. Driveways have basketball hoops set up and lead to two-car attached garages. Streetlights line the sidewalks. Homes typically range from $200,000 to $400,000. “There’s not a huge price difference between Lomira and Fond du Lac,” Zellner says. “But especially for those coming from the south and the Milwaukee area, you can get more house for the money, and you don’t have to drive those extra 10 to 15 minutes from Fond du Lac.”
Lomira's public schools head to state championships
Lomira Elementary School receives a B from Niche. Lomira Middle School receives a B-plus rating. Lomira High School receives a B-minus and offers plenty of sports teams and athletic opportunities. In 2024, its football team won the state championships. “My daughter had a basketball tournament that they hosted there, and they have a couple of gyms, and it's nicely spaced out,” Zellner says.
Sterr Park's swimming pool and the Golf Club at Camelot
Sterr Park is the village’s largest green space, with a playground, fishing pond and pool open for summer swimming lessons. Bak’s Playground Dog Park is a fenced-in area where pets can play. Buerger Nature Trail is a grassy, unpaved trail through the woods and by a creek, just off South Pleasant Hill Avenue. The Golf Club at Camelot is an 18-hole course open to the public and a popular local wedding venue. Horicon Marsh State Wildlife Area is 33,000 acres of protected wetlands, known for its migratory birds and trails. “It’s fairly appealing to hunters. A lot of people go there for duck hunting and birdwatching,” Zellner says.
Diners and pubs around Lomira and nearby grocery options
Diner 67’s menu includes everything from pancakes and eggs for breakfast to stir fry and chicken parm for dinner, with Friday fish fries. The Field House Bar and Grill offers pizza, burgers and some barbecue. Quitting Time Pub and Grill serves standard American pub fare. Lomira has its own Piggly Wiggly, but the Fond du Lac Walmart Supercenter is about 15 miles away.
Commuting to Appleton or Milwaukee from Lomira

Downtown Appleton is about 55 miles away, and Appleton International Airport is also in the city. Downtown Milwaukee is 51 miles away, and Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport is about 60 miles from Lomira.
The Lomira Farmers Market and summer concerts in the park
The Lomira Farmers Market sets up in the Sterr Park Pavilion on Thursday evenings from June to August. Every August, the Fond du Lac Symphonic Band performs a concert in Sterr Park, where residents can set up chairs and picnic blankets on the lawn. The summer concert is a 38-year tradition.
