Single-family homes with a personal touch
Most of the streets in Acres Green are wide and lined with single-family homes built in the 1970s and 80s that are surrounded by mature trees. “The lots are huge and can get up to a quarter of an acre or more,” Pippin says. “People who want chickens or more privacy and bigger yards will like the large lots here.” Contemporary split-levels and ranch-style homes are popular and come with cement driveways and attached garages. These properties range from 1,500 to 3,000 square feet and cost anywhere between $550,000 to $700,000. There are also a handful of Colonial Revivals in the neighborhood that are similarly sized and priced and have unique features like brightly colored exteriors, small front porches and stone accents. “We don’t have any covenants, so people can do whatever they want to do with their home. We have one man who built a pirate ship; he lets the kids come out on Halloween and Christmas to check it out,” says Jo Ann Lathrop, President of the Acres Green Homeowners Association.

An easy walk to neighborhood parks
When Acres Green residents want to stretch their legs, they can hop on the Willow Creek Trail, which travels across the neighborhood, and walk to one of the parks along it. “The kids can walk and go anywhere with the trail. You can take that path to the parks, the Lone Tree Library and even take the trail to the mall,” Pippin says. The neighborhood’s namesake park has a baseball diamond and multi-use field, right next to an elementary school of the same name. North of Acres Green Park is Lonesome Pine Park, which has basketball and tennis courts, a playground for little ones, picnic tables and grassy green fields for relaxing And in the winter months, “It’s got one of the most epic sledding hills that I’ve ever seen,” Pippin says. In the eastern section of the neighborhood, Sweetwater Park has an open field that’s used for summer concerts that feature local artists, and Cook Creek Park has a large outdoor pool with a water slide. To the west, athletes can play league tournaments on Altair Park’s baseball and multi-purpose fields. Additionally, golf enthusiasts can travel a mile south to reach Lone Tree Golf Club and Hotel. The 18-hole championship course was designed by Arnold Palmer and is open for public reservations, though members get priority.

Celebrating the community with events
Throughout the year, the Acres Green Homeowners Association will host roughly eight family events and four adult-only gatherings to keep the community connected. These range from seasonal parties like the Fourth of July parade to one-offs like a wine night or Pirate Day. “2023 was our community’s 50th anniversary, and we threw a party. Well, everyone wants it to continue, so now it’s going to be our annual block party,” Lathrop says. Every event is paid for by the HOA’s voluntary dues, with the goal of having fun opportunities to get people together.
Upscale shopping and dining opportunities
While the neighborhood itself is primarily residential, Acres Green is a stone’s throw away from Park Meadows Mall, the area’s largest collection of national retailers. Featuring over 180 storefronts, the mall has department stores like Macy’s and high-end clothing brands like Tillys, Urban Outfitters and Michael Kors. In addition to shopping, patrons can grab a bite to eat at some of its restaurant chains. Fogo de Chão Brazilian Steakhouse boasts a classy dining experience, while Urban Village Grill is more laid back featuring modern Indian cuisine. Across the street, Seasons 52 has a rotating menu of upscale dishes and an international wine selection. Seasonal and flagship craft beers are available at Lone Tree Brewing Company. It’s also one of the few breweries in the metro area that allows dogs inside. When it comes to staying in for home-cooked meals, there are a few grocery stores in the area, including Costco, Sam’s Club and SV Sweets and Grocers, which specializes in Indian and international ingredients.
