Multiple parks are scattered throughout the neighborhood, offering plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation. Winding Path Park is one of the larger ones, with landscaped gardens surrounding decorative stepping stones near a picnic pavilion. There’s a large grassy field for play, and several walking paths that cut through the area. Four Square Park and Crescendo Park both have playgrounds and picnic tables, while the Stepping Stone Dog Park is a gated, off-leash area for pups. East-West Trail is one of the many multi-use walking paths winding through the neighborhood, circling ponds and backyards. According to Riley, a 9-hole disc golf course follows along the trail. About 4 miles from Stepping Stone is the Meridian Golf Club, a private, 18-hole course. EchoPark Stadium has a football field circled by a track, about 2 miles south. Stepping Stone is served by the Douglas County School District, which offers open enrollment for potential students. Prairie Crossing Elementary School and Sierra Middle School both provide gifted and talented programs. From there, students can attend Chaparral High School and participate in over 25 varsity sports or 40 extra-curricular activities. All three schools earn A-minus grades from Niche. “They’re excellent. The Stepping Stone Homeowners Association has been serving the community since construction began in 2013, providing maintenance and multiple amenities. The Lantern House is the neighborhood’s clubhouse, which has an outdoor swimming pool and playground area. The building can be rented out for private parties.Additionally, the community hosts several events throughout the year, including an Easter egg hunt and a Fourth of July bike parade. “We have carriage rides in the winter during Christmas. They’ll bring in these big Clydesdale horses to pull the sleds around the paths.” Riley says. During the summer, residents can enjoy cornhole tournaments, concerts in the park and food truck nights.
Navigating in and out of Stepping Stone
Sidewalks and walking trails may encourage afternoon strolls, but traveling outside the neighborhood requires a vehicle. Ridgegate Parkway connects to Interstate 25 about 3 miles west of Stepping Stone and can take commuters roughly 21 miles into Downtown Denver. “[Stepping Stone] is close to everything – you can hop on the highway and get anywhere,” Riley says. HCA HealthONE Sky Ridge is a general hospital farther west in Lone Tree. The Denver International Airport is around 33 miles away.Nearby commerce in Lone Tree and Parker
While Stepping Stone is primarily residential, shopping and dining can be found about 5 miles west in Lone Tree. Lincoln Commons At Ridgegate is a shopping center with a Target and Sprouts Farmers Market. Via Baci Modern Italian Kitchen & Bar is a local restaurant specializing in wood-fired pizzas and Italian classics. Chain eateries in the area include Costa Vida and Firehouse Subs. Across the street, Heritage Hills Shopping Center has Safeway and McDonald’s. Great Divide Brewery & Roadhouse has craft beer and upscale American fare nearby.For more options, Downtown Parker is over 3 miles east of the neighborhood, with dozens of gift shops, clothing boutiques and local restaurants lining Main Street. Parker Market Place is close by with its own Safeway. National retailers in the area include Walmart, Home Depot and Target. Texas Roadhouse and Buffalo Wild Wings are two of many chain restaurants in Parker.
