Strong schools and more affordable housing
South Huntington is part of the larger Town of Huntington, giving residents access to its beaches, marinas and golf courses. But it’s more centrally located, meaning it’s an easier commute for those working in New York City. “Living too far north can add 30 minutes to your daily commute,” says Todd Yovino, agent and owner of Island Advantage Realty. South Huntington is also a more affordable option than coastal Huntington Bay or the Village of Huntington, and has a strong school system. “Homebuyers really like the schools in this part of Suffolk County,” Yovino adds.

Beach access and Walt Whitman’s birthplace
As it’s part of the larger Town of Huntington, South Huntington residents can pay a nominal fee for access to nine beaches maintained by the town. “Each one is more beautiful than the other,” says Risa Ziegler, an agent at Douglas Elliman who has lived in the area for over 20 years. There are also five boat ramps for residents, and boating, paddle boarding, swimming or just taking in the water views are popular pastimes. There are also inland parks like 800-plus-acre West Hills County Park, about 4 miles from South Huntington. The Walt Whitman Birthplace Association is near the mall named after the poet and offers year-round events for poets, children and others.

I don't see a lot of cops in my neighborhood, but they are quick at responding when needed.

I've lived in South Huntington my entire life and I love it here. I also go to Walt Whitman, and the school and town itself are among the most diverse and unique on Long Island. There's a place in the schools for everyone of every interest, even in the private schools.

Its honestly one of the best areas to be in. It's a nice and rather safe community, it's also very close to almost everything. All stores are probably a 10 minute drive maximum and theres even the Walt Whitman Shops on 110 too. Great school district as well.
