Condos and townhouses available in East Garden City
In the commercial area of Uniondale, East Garden City, most housing units consist of condos, townhouses and apartments within a complex or subdivision. Townhouses and condos are in the new traditional style. Townhouses and condos range from $700,000 to over $1.1 million. Uniondale's mainly single-family residential area is organized in a grid, with homes set back from the street and bordered by thin sidewalks and white picket fences. “There are mostly single-family homes,” says Damien Coleman, the broker and owner of Dac Properties Corp. “It has one of the lowest school taxes in the county.” Many residences here are Cape Cods and minimal traditionals with detached garages and private driveways ranging from $475,000 to $825,000. Most have neat front yards and private driveways with detached garages. “The neighborhood is regenerating,” says Barry Paley, a broker and team leader at Keller Williams Commercial. Paley is a local expert whose team specializes in the Long Island and Queens areas. "The area is really appreciated and highly sought after," Paley says residents update and remodel their homes instead of moving because they like the area.Shopping and dining in East Garden City
Fast food locations and chain restaurants line Hempstead Turnpike in Uniondale, including Pantano’s Gourmet and locally owned food truck Charro Coliseum Tacos. “People go to Garden City to eat,” says Paley. Several shopping malls border East Garden City, including Roosevelt Field and Westbury Plaza. For dining, locals may visit popular chains in the shopping areas or order from Napolini Express, which specializes in pizza but offers a variety of other Italian dishes. In Garden City proper, residents will find eateries, including B.K. Sweeney’s Uptown Grille offers gourmet bar food in a homestyle setting. Groceries are available at Whole Foods Market at Roosevelt Fields or Costco at Westbury Plaza. For a grocer closer to home, residents frequent ShopRite of Uniondale, in the same complex as Walmart.Concerts and museums in East Garden City
Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum and the surrounding area are hubs for concerts, state fairs, expositions and other events. Plans to build a casino and resort near the coliseum include more hotels and a conference center. Many local government officials and Hofstra University students have expressed concerns about the proposal and say it could have a negative effect on the community. Two prominent museums in East Garden City are the Cradle of Aviation Museum and the Long Island Children’s Museum. Both have interactive exhibits, and the Aviation Museum has a planetarium.Fine arts at Uniondale High

Hofstra University is a private university with a B rating from Niche that provides graduate and undergraduate degrees. Local students wishing to attend Hofstra University could enroll in Nassau Community College first, as the institution labels itself a jumping-off point for students wanting to attend a four-year university.Mitchel Field used by early aviators
Small parks are scattered throughout Uniondale, providing places for residents to enjoy the outdoors. Cedar Street Park’s playground is a place for children to burn off some energy, and its baseball field often hosts practices and games. Salisbury Park Drive Ballfields sit next to East Garden City and has baseball fields and a nearby lake surrounded by golf courses. Mitchel Field has many athletic fields and a complex, but it is best known for being a favorite among aviators in the 1910s and into the 1950s, including Amelia Earhart.Commuters use Carle Place Station
Sidewalks are typical along the residential streets of Uniondale and in the urban East Garden City. Commuters often take the train from Carle Place Station, just over 5 miles from the center of Uniondale, which reaches New York City in about 40 minutes. Bus stops line Uniondale Avenue and the Hempstead Turnpike for public transportation. Highways leading outside the community include the Hempstead Turnpike, Meadowbrook State Parkway and Southern State Parkway. The roadways traversing the area can become noisy. Those living in the commercial district may experience the sounds of the city, especially near expressways. The more suburban areas are bordered by trees and set far back from Meadowbrook State Parkway and Southern State Parkway, which border the area. The John F. Kennedy International Airport is 13 miles away.
