Business District
Main Street’s unique shops and restaurants
The commercial corridor includes everything from novelty shops like Snarkington’s Gifts and Barbed Wire Books to clothing stores like Flower Wild and Ivy Rose. “Main Street features a variety of local boutiques, cafes and artisanal shops,” Farran says. “It’s a great spot for unique finds and a more personalized shopping experience.” There is also a diverse collection of locally owned restaurants that range from casual cafes to upscale bistros. Lucile’s Creole Café makes Cajun-inspired breakfast dishes, while Janie’s Café sticks to American homestyle skillets. Tortugas is a seafood restaurant with Caribbean flavors that pair with fresh island cocktails. Pumphouse Brewery has outdoor patio seating and The Roost comes with a rooftop bar – both are popular nighttime options.Horizon Park Center is north of Downtown, off 21st Avenue, and has big box stores. There’s a King Soopers and Murdoch’s Ranch & Home Supply. Fast food options in the area include Popeye’s and Taco Bell. Another option for groceries is a Natural Grocers that’s located between 17th and 19th avenues.
Residences available for renting or purchasing
Most properties in the business district are commercial, although there are a handful of multi-family residential spaces. Rentable apartments serve as the main source of housing, with units that range from 650 to 1,150 square feet depending on number of bedrooms. There are also contemporary multi-story townhouses for sale within the district. Some units are attached to an entire row of townhouses, while others are separated and come with fenced-in yards and paved patios. These properties range from 1,200 to 2,100 square feet and can cost $350,000 to $575,000.Though they are a market rarity, the neighborhood also has a handful of single-family houses. Victorian homes and cottage-inspired bungalows with front porches span 1,200 to 1,750 square feet. Prices range from $495,000 to $875,000. “The area has preserved much of its early 20th-century architecture, which adds to its unique character,” Farran says. There are also ranch-style homes and split-levels.
Painting or putting on a performance
As Longmont’s cultural epicenter, the Business District has several art galleries and studios, including the Firehouse Art Center and Helios Public Art Space. Additionally, the Longmont Theater Company explores performance art through plays and musicals. Its youth theatre encourages children to participate in productions too.Downtown Longmont’s annual festivals
Longmont’s Business District hosts several annual events that celebrate the community. “The downtown area is super vibrant with a lot going on,” says Realtor Teresa Lomax with Equity Colorado Real Estate. “They used to do a family friendly, Friday-night bike ride, and they also have a holiday parade and an arts festival.” Longmont Arts Week is a showcase of the city’s artist community and starts with the ArtWalk on Main – a street festival with hundreds of booths for local artisans, plus six stages for live music, art demonstrations and dance and theater performances. There’s also a Summer Concert, a Wine Walk and the Winter Walkabout Music Showcase.Nearby green spaces filled with recreation
While most of Main Street is comprised of commercial areas, there are a few green spaces close to the Business District. Roosevelt Park is one of the larger parks in the city, with both a recreation center and a senior center on its grounds that have indoor facilities and offer classes. The park comes with seasonal amenities such as an outdoor pool and an ice rink. Roosevelt also has the Longmont Memorial Rose Garden, with rows of blooms. Collyer Park has a train-themed playground area, plus a pickleball ball court and sand volleyball. Old Mill Park is a designated historic landmark with multiple 19th-century buildings, including the Hubbard House, Townley House and Hauk Milk House.Traveling along Main Street
Main Street is the neighborhood’s primary thoroughfare, with multiple modes of transportation offered. “Downtown Longmont is well-served by Regional Transportation District (RTD) bus routes, making it accessible for those using public transportation,” Farran says. “The area is also bike friendly, with several bike lanes and paths connecting to other parts of the city.” The Business District has a walk score of 85 out of 100, thanks in part to wide sidewalks and pedestrian-friendly infrastructure. Additionally, commuters have access to Ute Highway, also known as Colorado Highway 66.Getting educated at Saint Vrain Valley schools
