Lots of room to grow in a small-town community atmosphere
Loudon is a somewhat rural town just 8 miles north of Concord and is home to NASCAR's New Hampshire Motor Speedway. People like to move to Loudon because of “the lower taxes, the racetrack and, according to Business New Hampshire, they’re calling it the 3rd best place to live in New Hampshire,” says Bob DuFour, broker and founder of B&B Realty of Concord. He’s been selling homes since 1985. DuFour also mentions that Loudon locals like the way things are, with the rural landscape, community atmosphere and plenty of room. Homes can date back to the 1790s and often include renovated or updated New England farmhouses and cottages. There are a few local favorite restaurants, and folks can easily hop on one of the many major roadways to reach Concord or the shops near the old Steeplegate Mall. It should also be noted that the Loudon Town Transfer Station dump takes up a large portion of the center and north part of the neighborhood.

New Hampshire Motor Speedway traditions
Loudon is also home to the New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Famous for its NASCAR National Series – the only one of its kind in the New England region – the racetrack is visited by thousands of people every year. The track also hosts several charity events and car shows throughout the year. Winners of these locally held races are given a Louden the Lobster live crustacean trophy.

Local restaurants and country stores
“I’ve spent my whole life in Loudon. I love this town, it’s where I grew up. It’s home to me,” says Nasi Georgopoulls, proprietor of Beanie’s Bar & Grill, Loudon’s biggest restaurant with live music nights, comfort pub food and a friendly atmosphere. “When I had the opportunity to open a restaurant here, I was very excited. I knew I could bring high quality food to regular people.” Loudon’s small-town atmosphere means places like Beanie's are constantly full of familiar faces. “There’s not one person who comes in that I don’t know the name of,” Georgopoulls says. Beanie’s also stays involved with the community through donations, raffles and participating in Old Home Day celebrations. Folks can support local agriculture and buy homegrown goods at the Pasture 2 Plate Market next door. The Loudon Village Country Store is a convenient spot with a few household items, ice and takeaway foods like pizza. For bigger shopping trips, folks can head down Route 106 to get to the remaining businesses surrounding the now-closed Steeplegate Mall. Familiar stores include The Home Depot, Walmart, Aldi and Shaw’s.

Hiking trails, public parks and Soucook River
Behind the Loudon Town Clerk's office are the Loudon Recreational Fields and the skatepark. With tennis courts, a basketball court and a ballfield, it is the area's biggest public park. There are several hiking trails around town, including the Lovejoy Hiking Trails and the Riley Trails at Hoit Road Marsh. Oak Hill has a scenic lookout trail that leads to the Oak Hill Fire Tower in the middle of the forest preserve. The Mountain View Stables wedding venue offers views of the rolling New Hampshire hills, and locals and tourists can camp out at Cascade Campground during the races or times of pleasant weather. Like many neighborhoods near Concord, Loudon's access to Merrimack County waterways and estuaries can make the area prone to flooding during times of heavy rainfall. However, that also means locals have ample opportunities for hiking, fishing and exploring the New Hampshire wilderness. The Soucook River winds throughout Loudon and has several fishing holes to explore.

Historic New England farmhouses and more modern ranch-style homes
Homes can be found on major roads like Route 129 or or Rocky Pond Road, set back against the street on nice paved or gravel driveways. Others can be found on the many backroads that lead into the forested, rolling hills. “It’s a medium-sized community. We’ve got a lot of first-time homebuyers and those looking to retire and downsize. There’s only about 6,000 people here, and we’ve got a lot of land, so we’re not cramped,” DuFour says. Raised ranch homes and symmetrical Colonial-inspired residences give the area a classic New England feel. Manufactured homes on wooded lots and renovated New England farmhouses on generous acreage are nice options for those looking to have their own hobby farm or homestead. Smaller, fixer-upper homes or those that haven’t had major upgrades in decades can cost between $200,000 and $350,000. Larger family homes can cost between $400,000 and $700,000. Farms on sprawling acreage or brand-new homes with four or more bedrooms sometimes run upwards of $800,000.
Large colonial-style homes enrich a strong charcter in the neighborhood of Loudon.

Loudon community organizations and newsletters
The Loudon community has several clubs and amenities for its neighbors. The John O. Cate Memorial Van Association organizes volunteer drivers who take residents to medical and other appointments when they can't transport themselves. Programs like the Loudon Food Pantry and the Loudon Lions Club help the community meet its needs. The Loudon Ledger, a monthly free newspaper, is distributed to locals and lets them know what is happening in town. Loudon, like most New Hampshire towns, participates in Old Home Day. Their chosen day is a Saturday in August, and features live music, fireworks and a parade.
