Peaceful suburban streets in O'Bannon
Home to Ford’s Kentucky Truck Plant, the O’Bannon neighborhood is a community located at the outer edge of Louisville. A mixed-use community, to the west there's a large industrial hub – where residents will find manufacturing businesses like the Ford Plant, Eagle Steel and Fed/Ex – while to the east its primarily subdivisions. Large single-family homes line winding roads that often end in dead-ends, as is common in the quintessential modern suburb. It’s not necessarily a place where the action happens, but for many of the white-collar and open-collar workers that call it home, it’s a place to lay their head down, to have a cook-out with the neighbors, or for their kids to enjoy a game of street hockey or pick-up basketball in a protected, traffic-free cul-de-sac. At the same time, it’s convenient to the offices of downtown while also providing enough amenities that folks can always opt to stay put too.

Above-average schools in Jefferson County
Numerous institutions within the Jefferson County Public School District serve the O'Bannon neighborhood, in part because of the district's "choice options" which allow parents to select the best school/approach for their children. Many students in the community attend Bowen Elementary, which has an overall grade of B-plus on Niche. While others may opt to attend Taylor or Chancey, which earn a C and a C-plus, respectively. Middle schoolers can attend Kammerer Middle , which scores a C-plus grade on Niche and then head on to Ballard High School, which receives an A grade. O’Bannon residents recognize Ballard High School's diverse and successful athletic program, which features indoor and outdoor training facilities. An alternative path students may follow starts out at Stopher or Middletown, with B-plus and C grades respectively. From there, they'll head to the brand-new, un-rated Echo Trail Middle School before wrapping up at Eastern High School, which comes in with an A-minus grade.

Private and public recreation opportunities
Within the subdivisions, facilities like the Forest Springs Swim & Tennis Club and the Woodmont Clubhouse provide private recreation opportunities for residents. While just outside the neighborhood, folks can enjoy the expansive public EP Tom Sawyer State Park. One of the most visited parks in the state, it features the usual hiking and biking trails as well as some unusual amenities including an archery range, a Supercross BMX track and an airstrip for small remote-control airplanes and hot air balloons.

Events in EP Tom Sawyer State Park and beyond
In O'Bannon, the winding residential streets don’t lend themselves to neighborhood events – instead, according to Kim Meyer, Associate Property Manager for the Villas of Forest Springs, “The EP Tom Sawyer State Park hosts events that cater to everyone. They have something for every differing interest in the neighborhood.” Events include movie showings during Fun Flicks Friday, axe throwing and chili cookouts. Residents can head downtown for events centered around the Kentucky Derby, including the two-week lead-up to the race, called the Kentucky Derby Festival.

Shining shopping centers and old school local faves
Providing O’Bannon with plentiful and peaceful residential space means pushing retail together at the corner of the neighborhood. Offering one-stop shopping convenience, the Anchorage Plaza and the Shops of Forest Springs are home to a Kroger for groceries, along with a variety of local and national restaurants, medical services, retailers and more. Mariscos Los Plebes is a popular local Mexican restaurant with a focus on seafood dishes. At the north end of the neighborhood, Jucy’s Smokehouse Bar-BQ is a rustic old-school barbecue joint with daily specials still scrawled on a dry-erase board, specializing in Texas-style barbecue. General manager Troy Phillips is proud of the Lone Star style, saying “Our smoked beef brisket, that’s what makes us Texas style. It’s smoked for 16 hours, that’s what we’re known for. Our sides are all homemade too.” Wrap it up with a homemade cobbler or banana pudding before heading next door, where Tingle’s Plants and Produce is a go-to spot in the summer for green thumbs. The Cottage at Tingle’s is a treasure trove of antiques and oddities.

Commutes to downtown Louisville
While sidewalks are abundant, and plenty of neighbors pop out for evening walks and bike rides, O’Bannon is very car-dependent for getting to/from the stores and surrounding areas.
