Park Duvalle

Giving the community a center to build around
For Park Duvalle, Southwick Community Center has become a hub of residents' lives – Albert Brown, Center Supervisor, says, “We offer programs from ages six through seniors… sports like flag football and soccer, senior programming like senior crochet classes.” Providing the neighborhood a safe place to come together is a primary need for a changing community. Brown says the community center is working to change with the times too - “We’re in the process of trying to get an e-sports room so the youth can come in and play with the game systems... Adults will come in and utilize the computer lab, we’re upgrading the computer lab right now.”
River City makes it easy to get around
The Transit Authority of River City (TARC) operates several bus routes that service Park Duvalle and help community members access the greater Louisville region. Even though there are plenty of sidewalks and bikeable side streets, many in the neighborhood depend on cars due to amenities being located on the outskirts of the neighborhood or beyond. Thankfully for those drivers, Interstate 264 cuts through the heart of the neighborhood, providing easy highway access throughout Louisville and beyond. Louisville Muhammed Ali International Airport sits roughly 8 miles from the neighborhood, often reachable in under 15 minutes. - University of Louisville Hospital Emergency Room and Norton Hospital are both within 5 miles, and usually take around 15 minutes to reach from Park Duvalle.Generations of housing options in Duvalle

Smaller two-bedroom properties can be found starting at $40,000, usually fetching up to $110,000, and more modern three- and four-bedroom homes generally go for between $100,000 and $220,000. There are numerous rental options as well – over half of the households in the neighborhood are rentals.Limited dining and shopping without travel

Corner convenience stores and fast-food franchises provide bare necessities, although a Kroger and a Save-a-Lot are both within 3 miles of the neighborhood. The Community Center helps to provide a landing net, as Brown points out - “We have the Kid’s Café program through Dare to Care, so the kids get a hot meal every day Monday through Thursday.” A Dollar General provides a stop for general needs, but most major retailers are located miles away.Park options for relaxation and play
Park DuValle has two parks, Algonquin Park and Russell Lee Park. Algonquin Park is one of the 17 parks in Louisville designed by Frederick Law Olmstead. Established in 1928, it features green space and walking trails. Both parks have a playground, splash park, multiple sports fields and picnic shelters, while Algonquin Park is home to the Algonquin Pool. Russell Lee Park, meanwhile, offers a football field for flag football.Jefferson County offers school choice options

Some may instead go on to Stuart Academy and then finish up at Valley High, rated C-minus and C-plus respectively – Valley offers a Business and Industry Academy as well as a Health Science Academy for career-focused schooling.
