Valley Station
Traditional homes and new construction
Most homes in Valley Station date back to the mid-1900s as the area underwent major suburban development in the 1950s and 1960s. This past can be seen today in the ranch-style, split-level and colonial revival homes that line the suburb’s streets. Around Dixie Highway, three-bedroom ranch-style homes with brick or shingled exteriors sit on quarter-acre lots, with prices ranging from about $120,000 to $200,000. Further from the highway, the suburb is continuing to develop, and new construction is common. Homebuyers in the Orell Station subdivision can find three-bedroom new traditional homes built in the early 2020s starting at about $330,000.Traveling on the Dixie Highway
Residents are minutes from major thoroughfares. “Valley Station sits on Dixie Highway,” Cox says. “That’s a four-lane highway that runs right through it with a ton of businesses around.” The highway connects to I-264, making it easier for residents to traverse the 20 miles to Downtown Louisville. There are also several bus stops served by the Transit Authority of River City along Dixie Highway. For longer trips, locals are about 15 miles from the Louisville International Airport.Retail options along the Dixie Highway
The Dixie Highway runs through Valley Station and is lined by a collection of shops and restaurants. The community gathers at long-standing establishments such as Khalil’s, a lively sports bar and restaurant known for its American classics and live music on Friday nights. Other favorites for dining include Mark’s Feed Store, a Louisville franchise serving Kentucky BBQ, and Valley Dairy Freeze, a local ice cream shop. When it’s time to run errands, locals can stop by chains such as Kroger and Walmart.Community parks, trails and golf course
Valley Station boasts several green spaces, including Sun Valley Park and Community Center. The park offers opportunities for outdoor recreation with lighted tennis courts, basketball courts, ballfields, a soccer field and a playground for kids to explore. At the community center, locals enjoy access to a gym, game room and outdoor swimming pool. On the other side of Dixie Highway, residents frequent Waverly Park. With a system of multi-use trails totaling over 7 miles, the park is a popular destination for hiking and mountain biking. This green space also boasts a fishing lake regularly stocked with catfish, rainbow trout and bass by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife. Golf lovers can play a round at the 9-hole Bobby Nichols Golf Course, named after Louisville native and PGA professional Bobby Nichols.Academic pathways in Jefferson County

Before Valley Station’s suburban development began in the mid-1900s, the area attracted farmers with its prime location along the Ohio River. This past is preserved today at the Riverside, Farnsley-Moremen Landing, a 300-acre historic farm and home reflecting Federal and Greek Revival architectural styles. The farm also contains an entrance to the Levee Trail, one of the oldest sections of the Louisville Loop traversing the top of a raised flood wall. When completed, the loop will contain over 100 miles of multi-use trails.
