A suburban development just east of Harrisburg

Skyline View offers comfortable suburban options among Pennsylvania’s rolling, green hills in West Hanover Township. Located just 12 miles east of Harrisburg and 8 miles north of Hershey, Skyline View residents have quick commutes to the capital city's government offices and popular attractions like Hersheypark and Hersheypark Stadium. “It’s a nice little area and a great little neighborhood,” says Fred Lynn, West Hanover Township resident and Realtor at Remax Realty Professionals. “People live here because it’s more rural, but still close to the city of Harrisburg, an hour and a half from Baltimore and two and a half from New York City. The location is awesome.”

Single-family homes built in the 20th and 21st centuries

Skyline View has several subdivisions, with brick-front ranch-style homes, midcentury split-levels and contemporary houses built after 2000. Homes usually sit on more than a quarter-acre of land, have two-car garages and have tidy landscaping. Most properties in Skyline View are single-family homes, though there are clusters of townhouses, condos and apartments. Most homes sell for between $300,000 and $400,000, with a median price of around $340,000.

Entertainment in Hershey, and more nearby shopping and dining

Allentown Boulevard goes through the neighborhood and has businesses and a handful of locally owned restaurants. These include Skyline Family Restaurant, a casual sit-down establishment serving brunch and American food, and JoJo's on 22 Pizzeria & Italian Restaurant, a relaxed date-night spot serving favorites like calzones, pasta and salad. Paxtonia has major retailers like Target, The Home Depot and Costco about 5 miles west. “You’re close to everything; all the shopping, and the best medical care around,” Lynn says. Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center is 8 miles south, and UPMC Harrisburg is 12 miles west, among other facilities.   The town of Hershey has more shopping, dining and attractions south of Skyline View. Entertainment options in Hershey include Hersheypark, which has roller coasters and a waterpark, and Hersheypark Stadium, which hosts major musical acts like Luke Bryan and Kendrick Lamar. “You’re 10 or 15 minutes from Hershey. That’s a big draw because we can just enjoy it all and go home. You don’t have to have a hotel or anything,” Lynn says.

State game lands in the mountains and Skyline Commons Park

Skyline View’s subdivisions are surrounded by farmland, and the Appalachian Mountains are just north. “It’s a mountain range, but they’re just big hills. It isn’t like Colorado,” Lynn says. “There are a lot of state game lands there, where people hunt and walk.” Skyline Commons Park also has a playground, pickleball and basketball courts, a small trail and more facilities bordering many neighborhood homes, and Mountain View Swim Club has a lap pool with a slide and diving board bordering the neighborhood.

Commuting to Harrisburg and nearby facilities

Harrisburg is about 12 miles west, and commuters can get into the city via U.S. Route 22 and Interstate 81. “Harrisburg is the capital of Pennsylvania, so all of the government buildings are there. But most people who work there live out in these townships,” Lynn says. “We’re only about 15 or 20 minutes outside the city.” Harrisburg International Airport is 15 miles south. Skyline View has a CAP Index crime score of 1 out of 10, far below the national average of 4.
