While drinking the water is safe, it is disinfected with chloramine, a combination of chlorine and ammonia, which can cause the water to taste bitter or metallic. Stormwater pollution can cause sewer overflows and impurities in the drinking water. The city has some solutions for homeowners that can mitigate this issue, such as not overwatering lawns, using less fertilizer and pesticides and using a rain barrel.
