Melonie Park

Ranch-style homes and larger architectural designs
While much of South Lubbock is made up of newer developments, Melonie Park captures a bygone era with midcentury homes set on finely landscaped yards with mature trees and shrubbery. Many homes have been remodeled in recent years, adding fresh design touches. “There are several bigger two-story homes that are very unique," says Lowrey. "And then there's a lot of the ranch style, or bigger one-story homes and some good square footage.” Buyers are attracted to the relative affordability in one of Lubbock’s more established south-side neighborhoods. Houses start at around $250,000 and can go as high as $400,000.Sought-after education at Miller Elementary
Students typically start at Miller Elementary School, rated A-minus on Niche, which Lowrey describes as “one of the most prized schools” in the Lubbock Independent School District. Constructed in 2013, the school takes its name from Lubbock educator and community advocate Jayne Ann Miller. They can move on to Evans Middle School and Monterey High, rated B-plus and B, respectively.Kastman Park is the neighborhood green space
The neighborhood's Kastman Park sits just south of Miller Elementary School and has tennis courts and a playground. Each year the park honors the victims of 9/11 with a display of American flags. Just west of the neighborhood, Leroy Elmore Park features a pond where visitors can catch catfish and carp.Local restaurants on Indiana Avenue
Several local restaurants lie just to the east of the neighborhood. At Sugar Browns Coffee Co., patrons can pull up a chair and relax with a fresh cup of joe and a menu of breakfast burritos and pastries. Dating back to 1965, Orlando’s Italian is one of Lubbock’s oldest full-service restaurants, serving homemade Italian delicacies. At Anna’s Mexican, fresh Tex-Mex is the standard with a plethora of tacos, burritos and enchiladas to enjoy. KK's Corner Mall features a variety of small businesses, from home decor to vintage fashions. For everyday shopping needs, Market Street and United Supermarkets are both nearby.Loop 289 connects Lubbock
Melonie Park sits 9 miles south of downtown Lubbock and residents can get there quickly by hopping on Loop 289, a major commuter highway that encircles the city and connects to Interstate 27. “The loop is, I would say, the main access road for anywhere in Lubbock. And the loop makes a big circle around Lubbock that access all of those roads,” Lowrey says. Melonie Park residents are also served by the public Citibus service with two routes providing access to downtown Lubbock.
