Hampton offers suburban homes in Baltimore County
Hampton is a verdant suburban hamlet just outside of the Baltimore Beltway. It sits between the city and Loch Raven Reservoir, sprawling through the woods northeast of Towson. “It’s a quiet area around Providence Road and Seminary Avenue,” says Lori Rogers of Monument Sotheby’s International Realty. “There’s lots of beautiful land up there, and especially since Covid hit, there’s been a very tight-knit community feel to it. The residents there started something called the Hamilton Social Club, which throws a festival every summer to benefit the local volunteer fire department. That’s the kind of place it’s become – very community-oriented and close.”
On a map, it may appear to be just another suburb of Baltimore. But Hampton locals take a kind of small-town pride in their unique and serene neighborhood.

Single family homes with varying sizes and a wide price range
Townhouses, mostly concentrated in the center of the neighborhood, can cost anywhere from $330,000 to $480,000, depending on square footage and number of bedrooms. Single-family homes in Hampton come in a variety of sizes and styles. “There are a lot of brick ranch-style houses in the area,” Rogers says. “But there are Cape Cods and larger Modern Traditional builds as well.” There are few sidewalks throughout the area. Homes sit just off the winding residential streets on wooded lots often large enough to accommodate backyard in-ground swimming pools. Prices typically range from around $345,000 to $880,000, varying based on build year, square footage and number of bedrooms. The largest homes in the community, which usually sit on lots larger than one acre, can fetch sums of up to $1.5 million.

Nearby private schools are long-standing Baltimore institutions
Students in Hampton are zoned to attend Hampton Elementary School, which receives a B-plus from Niche. Ridgely Middle, adjacent to the Lutherville Timonium Recreation Center, scores an A-minus. Loch Raven High, the closest public high school, is rated B. Private options nearby include Notre Dame Preparatory School, a Catholic school for girls in grades 6 through 12 that was founded in 1873. Young men may attend either Loyola Blakefield or Calvert Hall, two storied Baltimore high schools within 5 miles of the neighborhood. “Concordia Preparatory School is also right there in Hampton. That’s worth mentioning for its academics, but also because Darius Rucker’s kid went there,” Rogers says with a laugh.

Locals can explore Cromwell Valley Park and Loch Raven Reservoir
Cromwell Valley Park, on the south side of the community, is located on over 400 acres of former farmland. The park is comprised of four separate properties - Willow Grove Farm, Sherwood Farm, Barran’s Property and Betty’s Garden. It offers an expansive sprawl of woodland and open fields, popular for birdwatching and hiking. To the north, Hampton is bordered by the Loch Raven Reservoir, which provides space for kayaking, canoeing, fishing and archery hunting. “One of the other things worth mentioning is the Hampton Mansion,” Rogers says. “That’s been declared a national historic landmark, and people come from all over to walk their dogs through the park around it.” The mansion, built in the 18th century, is part of a preserved agricultural plantation that now acts as a park and museum. Tours of the building are available year-round.

Interstates 83 and 95 are major north-south highways for the region, providing access either to downtown or Baltimore Washington International Airport within 30 minutes. Surface streets like Providence Road and York Road are the quickest way to get to Towson and the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center.

Many places I go are hiring, so this leads me to believe there are job opportunities. But, there are still many unemployed.

There are a few really good places, but I wish certain places were spread out more through the area. Then, it wouldn't be out of the way to get to certain places.
