Peakland is 'a very sophisticated part of town'
Peakland, 5 miles from downtown Lynchburg, is home to a highly rated private high school and an autism center, with two major hospitals less than 10 miles away. “The area is viewed as a very sophisticated part of town,” says Mason Kiffmeyer, a Realtor with LPT Realty, LLC. “More classic, someone looking for that sort of feel, as opposed to new and modern.” The Virginia Episcopal School marks the area, says Kiffmeyer. VES is a private Christian high school and boarding school. Many local students attend the high school and most of the faculty live on campus. The area is also close to two major employers, the Virginia Baptist Hospital in Oakwood, just across Rivermont Avenue, and the Centra Lynchburg General Hospital near the University of Lynchburg. Near the VES campus, Westminster Canterbury is a retirement community that offers a social community with enrichment programs including exercise classes and painting. Nearby, the nonprofit organization Blue Ridge Autism and Achievement Center offers employment programs, behavior support plans and general assistance and advocacy at home and in school. Along Linden Avenue are other nonprofits, such as The Motherhood Collective and HumanKind Foster Care.

There’s a mix of housing styles and ages, and it can suit a wide range of buyers.” Homes are in the Colonial Revival, saltbox, ranch and Cape Cod styles. Homes in the area range from $150,000 to $420,000. Homes close to the neighborhood's main throughfare, Rivermont Avenue, range from $700,000 to over $1 million.
