Condos at $150,000, Victorian homes at $250,000
Potential homebuyers can find condominiums ranging from $150,000 to $250,000. Small ranch-style homes range from $200,000 to $350,000. Larger Victorians and American Foursquares with wooded backyards and manicured lawns range from $250,000 to $400,000. In Riverside, some homes sit right next to the James. While this can be very picturesque, it causes an extreme risk of flooding, with the most recent instance happening in July 2023. The Lynchburg Rising: Beyond Survival to Environmental Justice is a program that started in 2022 and offers flood preparation lessons and a space for people to share their flooding experiences.
Walking along the James River
Riverside Park takes up an entire corner of the neighborhood. It’s a large green space with a playground, basketball courts and walking trails. “It has a unique trail that leads to a train track. It’s really cool,” says Donovan. “I like to walk my dogs along the trails almost every morning.” The park also has a splash pad in the summer and borders the James River, which is another popular place to go in the warmer months. The Oakwood Country Club is just a mile, or a 3-minute drive, away.
Paul Munro Elementary, Virginia Episcopal School
Kids may attend Paul Munro Elementary School, which earns an A-minus from Niche, before advancing to Linkhorne Middle, which receives a B-minus and has a Middle School Heroes program that focuses on the positive development of students. Children can advance to E.C. Glass High School, which earns a B-plus and offers an annual career and technology job fair. Virginia Episcopal School is the nearest private school and receives an A-minus. Randolph College is a popular option for high school graduates and is right next to Riverside.
Mingling in downtown Lynchburg
Every Christmas season, the community decorates its namesake park with lights and ornaments. “It’s a big deal to go to Riverside during the holiday season,” says Donovan. Downtown Lynchburg, just 4 miles away, offers a walkable area with many local restaurants, shops, museums and historic landmarks.Driving down Rivermont Avenue
Many residents use Rivermont Avenue or U.S. Route 501 to get around Lynchburg. Commuters can also use the public bus service. The Lynchburg Regional Airport is 10 miles away.
Dining at local dive bars
Most shopping and dining destinations sit along Rivermont Avenue. The Cavalier Store, known to locals as "The Cav," is a popular cash-only burger joint with cozy, wooden booths. Seating is limited since and place is so popular. Residents know they’ve reached Rivermont Pizza when they see the bright red door on Rivermont Avenue. This spot has a dive-bar vibe, large beer menu and friendly prices. Most people shop for groceries at Kroger, which is just 2 miles away on Boonsboro Road. There’s also a farmers market in downtown Lynchburg, the Lynchburg Community Market, which sells fresh produce, homemade bread, and other locally sourced foods and items.Practicing faiths in Riverside
