Vista Acres, hidden behind the Wards Crossing shopping center, is 8 miles from downtown Lynchburg. The neighborhood is also a mile from Liberty University, one of the area's major employers, and the popular Wards Road retail corridor. “The thing that attracts people is the price range and convenience,” says Gary Foster, a broker and the owner of Gary Foster & Co. Dining and shopping line Wards Road, where popular chains include Cracker Barrel and Golden Corral Buffet & Grill. Summertime in Lynchburg can reach 86 degrees, which can feel hotter with the humid atmosphere. Residents beat the heat at Vista Acres Pool, a private pool surrounded by green space and hidden by tall trees. To join, community members are charged a one-time fee and continue to pay an annual membership fee. Soccer, softball, football and other games are played on the sports fields at Peaks View Park, 8 miles away. Part of the Lynchburg Trail System and the second-largest park in Lynchburg, Peaks View Park has mountain biking trails and picnic areas with grill stations. Minor League Baseball and local school football games may be viewed at the City Stadium Complex 5 miles away. Part of Liberty University is open to the public. The Liberty Mountain Snowflex Center allows skiing and snowboarding year-round using a synthetic snow surface called Snowflex.

Events are hosted at Vista Acres Pool throughout the year, such as a Fourth of July celebration with food, splash contests and raffles. While the residential neighborhood of Vista Acres is quiet, the nearby retail centers and highways may become noisy for homes close to Wards Ferry Road, says Foster. Though that usually isn’t a problem. The Lynchburg Regional Airport has a similar noise level. “Lynchburg has about six to eight flights a day,” says Foster. “Nothing that would cause issues in the neighborhood.”
