Windsor Hills
1960s and '70s homes from $300,000
Large, manicured lawns border wide roadways amid tall trees and foliage. Homes are set far back from the street with fenced-in backyards bordered by maples and oaks. Long driveways and carports are common additions. Most of the housing consists of single-family homes built in the 1960s and 1970s, with brick exteriors in the Colonial Revival, ranch and split-level prairie styles. “Homes are well built,” says Kramar. “The layout on a lot of them is not as contemporary as some people might like, but if they want solid homes, that’s a very good place to go.” Prices in the area range from $300,000 to $400,000. “It’s a mature area with very little construction,” says Kramar.Shopping and dining on Timberlake Road
Timberlake Road and the neighboring community of Cornerstone contain popular restaurants and retailers. Iron & Ale Lynchburg Tap and Table serves American food in an upscale tavern along Greenview Drive. Texas Inn serves hearty comfort food in a casual setting. “Texas Inn is popular with the locals,” says Cooper. Timberlake offers a variety of cuisines and restaurant styles, from more upscale at La Carreta to quick service dining at Chick-fil-A. Groceries are available at the Kroger on Timberlake.Sports, plays and musicals at local schools
The Liberty Flames home field, Williams Stadium, is 5 miles away. “Liberty Football is really gaining popularity,” says Kramar. “Because of their winning season last year. And then the theatre at Liberty is really above what you would expect from a small town.” Liberty produces plays and musicals from September to April in its Tower Theater and Black Box Theatre. Performing arts is a popular pastime in Lynchburg, and the two high schools in the area offer intensive theatre programs and extracurricular activities. “E.C. Glass High School puts on, in my opinion, Broadway-quality shows,” says Kramar. Religious services are offered at Berean Baptist Church of Lynchburg, The Church of God and The Hope Company Church.
Arts programs at Heritage High School
Children may attend Sheffield Elementary School, which receives a B-minus from Niche, and Sandusky Middle School, which receives a C-plus. Heritage High School receives a B-minus and has an in-depth arts program that includes music and theater. It also offers an early college program that allows students to earn an associate's degree in general studies as they earn their high school diploma.
Art in the Park at Riverside Park
Windsor has no parks, but there are gyms in Cornerstone and a Putt-Putt Fun Center on Timberlake with arcade games, mini golf, laser tag and go-karts. In Riverside Park, near downtown, the Lynchburg Parks and Recreation Department and Seven Hills Art Club display work by local artists through the Art in the Park event.
Commuting on U.S. Route 460
“There’s always traffic coming through on Greenview,” says Cooper. “A lot of people will go there to get to Timberlake.” Greenview Drive and Timberlake Road are two major roadways in the area and connect with U.S. Routes 460 and 501. The area is car-dependent, but there are bus stops along Timberlake Road. Lynchburg Regional Airport is 3 miles away.
