Lyncourt is one of five small communities in Salina, a suburb of Syracuse. The residential areas are clustered with the commercial districts on the neighborhood's outer boundaries and main streets. Narrow, gridded streets are tree-lined but do not offer sidewalks. "Inventory is low right now," says T.J. Perkins, an associate real estate broker with Acropolis Realty Group who was born and raised in Syracuse. "It's that way all over Syracuse."
Commuting is easy in Lyncourt
Residents of Lyncourt have several options for commuting within and around the greater Syracuse area. Bus service is provided by CENTRO, operated by the Central New York Regional Transportation Authority. Onondaga County was appropriately named the "Crossroads of New York State" because the state's two major interstate routes - the east-west New York State Thruway, or Interstate 90, and the north-south Interstate 81 intersect just north of Syracuse. "Commuting is a breeze," Perkins says. The Syracuse Hancock International Airport is a 5-mile drive via local streets.
Post-war homes
Most of the housing in Lyncourt is post-war construction, and homes are situated close together. Architectural styles comprise ranch-style, bungalow, Cape Cod and split-level. "Lots are small here," Perkins says. "All less than ¼ acre." There are also some multi-family homes and small apartment buildings. Most homes have garages that are either attached or detached. Prices here range from $115,000 to $249,000.
Cape Cod homes are popular not just in Lyncourt but throughout the entire region.

Residents will never go hungry
Despite its small size, Lyncourt offers an array of destinations for residents to shop and dine. Locals can get their groceries at Price Rite Marketplace of Syracuse, a 2-mile drive on back streets. The Black and Brew Bar and Grill is known for its steaks, cocktails and live entertainment. Delmonico's Italian Steakhouse has been a local staple for over two decades. Menu favorites include steaks, clams, pasta, salads and specialty cocktails.

Plenty of green space and activities
Sehr Park was created in 1972 and named after Lyncourt resident Fred Sehr, a long-time town volunteer. The park offers seasonal swimming in an outdoor pool, basketball and tennis courts and playground activities. The town of Salina Parks and Recreation Department oversees the park and sponsors recreational programs for people of all ages and for all seasons. McChesney Park has two softball diamonds, two tennis and basketball courts and a playground. It is also the site for Magnarelli Community Center, which provides active senior programming during the day and transitions to teen programming after school into the evening. Onondaga Lake Park in Salina is known as the "Central Park of Central New York" and is an 8-mile greenway featuring trails, special events, waterfront picnics, and the region's premier skate and dog parks. As New York state's fifth largest city, Syracuse offers residents access to year-round events, festivals, cultural events and college sports.

Community started with two big industries
In the early twentieth century, Lyncourt was home to two major industries: Syracuse China and a General Motors plant. Syracuse China moved into the neighborhood in 1920 when it built the first linear, one-floor plant in the American china industry. The company was a neighborhood mainstay for almost 100 years, closing in 2008. General Motors left in 1992, and both companies' plants evolved into continued commercial use.
