The Diamond District retains its historic atmosphere on the coastline
Close to the narrow stretch of land that connects Nahant to the mainland, the historic Diamond District sits on the shores of Nahant Bay north of Boston. The neighborhood itself maintains a spot on the National Register of Historic Places, having earned its name by way of the wealthy denizens and large homes that made up the early population and landscape there. “It has beautiful homes with beautiful woodwork, beautiful detail and stained glass,” says Julie Tsakirgis, a principal broker with Re/Max Property Shoppe and the Julie Tsakirgis Group. “It’s gorgeous. There are carriage houses, some of which have been condominiumized. It’s just a lovely area with trees and mature plantings. It’s this little, narrow area tucked between the oceanside and the main cityside.”
History abounds on land and in the surrounding waters, too, with dozens of shipwrecks littering the ocean floors of Nahant Bay and Broad Sound that divers can visit based on ability. Residents of the neighborhood have proximity to both central Lynn and Swampscott, and the stretch of Lynn Shore Drive that overlooks the beach and water is among the region’s most desirable areas to live. “That is a very unique area of Lynn,” Tsakirgis says. “You have access to the ocean and beach. It has very beautiful, old, large homes with beautiful detail in them. It’s one of the most amazing areas of Lynn.”
The Diamond District sits closely to Swampscott where residents can explore oceanfront dining and amenities.
Many homes in the Diamond District provide plenty of windows offering plenty of natural light everyday.

Sought-after homes overlooking the water on Lynn Shore Drive
Though originally developed as a neighborhood of opulent single-family homes, today the Diamond District is home to a large number of condominiums that, as Tsakirgis says, are “mostly Victorians with the round turrets,” a reflection of their original construction. Prices for these condos typically range from $300,000 to $600,000. In addition to an abundance of condominiums, the neighborhood also features elegant detached single-family homes. Those houses lining Lynn Shore Drive, which carves its way between the homes closest to the water and the ocean itself, typically have water views. “Just the drive along Lynn Shore Drive is stunning,” Tsakirgis says. “Every home is different. Some might have slate roofs, others might be brick, others are wood and there are stunning pillars. It’s a beautiful area and they’re all older.” Architectural designs include colonial-style homes and Victorians, with many built around the turn of the 20th century. Single-family homes can range between $650,000 and $1 million; those with water views command prices at the high end of that range.
You can choose to live a more maintenance-free lifestyle by choosing to live in one of the oceanfront condo buildings in the Diamond District.

Seafood stops on the coastline in Swampscott
Locals often head beyond the Diamond District’s boundaries to find places to eat. Just up the coast, less than half a mile from the neighborhood, several restaurants sit on the water. “There are beautiful restaurants there,” Tsakirgis says. “If you go to Swampscott, Mission on the Bay overlooks the rocks and the beach. It’s lovely. There are ice-cream stores, yogurt stores and pizza places. People can walk to Swampscott, because it’s right there, or go out to the Tides Restaurant & Pub in Nahant or to Marblehead.” Mission on the Bay has steak and seafood, while Anthony’s Pier 4 Café and Hawthorne By-The-Sea Tavern sit just a parking lot away, also on the waterfront.
The family-owned Dockside Pub sits just down the street, across from Fisherman’s Beach. In the other direction, close to the Diamond District, the Blue Ox has bistro dishes and cocktails. On the northern boundary of the neighborhood, Lewis Street has stops that include Rincon Macorisano’s Dominican food and breakfast and lunch meals at Christopher’s Café & Catering. Grocery shoppers often head to a Whole Foods less than two miles northeast of the neighborhood.
Hawthorne by the Sea and Anthony's Pier 4 Cafe sit within the same building near the Diamond District.

Getting outdoors in the water, at parks and on beaches
Red Rock Park sits on Lynn Shore Drive and extends out into the ocean. “My grandmother and I would go to Red Rock and collect mussels,” Tsakirgis says. “Red Rock has summer entertainment. In 2024, they had concerts in the summer, movie nights and other cute stuff.” To the west of the park, Lynn Beach and Nahant Beach blend together along the shoreline and are a popular draw for casual recreation. “People come here to walk the beach,” Tsakirgis says. “There’s parking on Lynn Shore Drive, or if you live there you can just walk to the beach. Nahant is a lovely seaside area.”
Locals can also get out on the waves. “Right in that area, there’s paddleboarding, windsurfing and surfing,” Tsakirgis says. “Even in the high winds and coldness, you might see someone out there surfing. It’s pretty cool. You can see the boats from a distance because there’s no docking in this beach area, but you’ll see them go by. The waves are amazing and it’s beautiful at high tide.”
Red Rock Park is a landmark destination for Diamond District residents.
Diamond District residents love to take their dog for a walk along at the nearby Kings Beach.

Annual holiday celebrations and a nearby entertainment venue
Along with its summer concert series and movie nights, Red Rock Park hosts other events during the year on the scenic overlook. Lynn Shore Drive shuts down for the area’s Fourth of July celebration. “They do a big Fourth of July parade,” Tsakirgis says. “That’s huge there. There are fireworks, ice cream trucks and people go early in the morning or late at night to get their spots.” The festival also features live music, and the fireworks take flight from Red Rock Park. Less than 2 miles from the center of the Diamond District, the Lynn Memorial Auditorium has both city offices and also seats over 2,000 attendees for events like concerts and musicals. “It has beautiful theater shows and entertainment that comes there,” Tsakirgis says. “People go to the theater and then go to the Blue Ox Restaurant or Rosetti’s.”
Driving down to Boston on Route 1A
The closest main routes and highways sit about 5 miles from the Diamond District. “You have to go a ways out of the Diamond District to get to Route 1,” Tsakirgis says. “The best way would probably be to go via the Lynnway, which has access into Revere to go into Boston.” Route 1 and an interchange onto Interstate 95 are each about 5 miles away, and Boston itself is about 11 miles south by way of Route 1A. MBTA bus stops line Lewis Street on the edge of the neighborhood. Boston Logan International Airport sits less than 10 miles south and serves millions of passengers every year. Dozens of airlines utilize the airport, and collectively they serve both domestic and international destinations.
