Suburban North Shore neighborhood in Lynn
While Lynn features a busy downtown area, industrial history and a peaceful shoreline, its Victory Road neighborhood has a more suburban, community feel. Tall, shady trees, hilly residential roads and homes made of clapboard and vinyl are some of the emblems of this quiet area, about 2 miles from the heart of Lynn. “Most streets here are dead-ends, and that secluded feel fosters a sense of community,” says Albert DiVirgilio, Lynn native and broker-owner of RE/MAX 360 in Lynn along with his wife, Katie. “It’s an insulated neighborhood that’s tight knit near the Salem and Peabody lines,” he says. Potential homebuyers looking at the North Shore have historically chosen Swampscott or Salem, but Lynn’s relative affordability and 15-mile proximity to Boston have made it a highly desirable home base in recent years.
Forests, the floating bridge and a pirate cave
Victory Road is situated adjacent to Floating Bridge Park, home to the historic bridge built against the surface of a small body of water. On the other side of the neighborhood, Harold A. King Town Forest has a park trail for hiking and on-leash dog walking. The flagship of Lynn is its 2,200-acre Lynn Woods Reservation, the second-largest municipal park in the U.S., within about 5 miles of the neighborhood. Here, locals hike, mountain bike, cross-country ski and attend guided nature walks. On a clear day, its stone tower provides panoramic views of Boston in the distance. The reservation is also home to Dungeon Rock, which invites brave visitors to explore its underground tunnel, rumored to be a pirate grave. Gannon Municipal Golf Course provides a public 18-hole course, complete with a pro shop, right next door to the reservation.
Floating Bridge Pond is a staple of the Victory Road neighborhood and is fun to walk around.
