Stone Meadows has newer homes and plenty of parks and shopping
Stone Meadows is one of Madison's newer neighborhoods. About 20 minutes from Downtown Madison, the suburb has its own selection of retail options, and access to U.S. Route 18 keeps it close to the city center. Though most of Stone Meadows is part of Madison, a small sliver on Nesbitt Road belongs to neighboring Fitchburg. Local community events and outdoor activities make the suburb a lively place to live all year long.
Relatively new homes, slightly higher than the citywide median
The neighborhood was mostly developed from the 1990s to the 2000s, well after most West Side communities. Its winding residential streets are full of split-level and raised ranch-style homes with Colonial Revival influences. “You’ve got that kind of sweet spot of ‘established neighborhood’ without the complexity that an older home is going to entail. Simplicity, lower maintenance, yet an established neighborhood,” says Michael Leeson, a Realtor with Realty Executives Cooper Spransy. Condos and townhouses have sold from the high $200,000s to the low $400,000s, while split-level and ranch-style homes go from the high $300,000s to the mid-$500,000s. Stone Meadows’ median sale price is slightly higher than the citywide median and higher than neighboring Meadowood, but still well below the downtown median.
Sidewalks throughout Stone Meadows make it a great walkable neighborhood.
Ranch homes in Stone Meadows tend to be newer builds, constructed mainly in the 1990s.

McKee Road's shopping centers include dozens of eateries and shops
Stone Meadows' northern border, McKee Road, is home to several shopping centers, so residents are spoiled for choice when it comes to shopping and dining. “It’s all the benefits of an urban setting without a lot of the hecticness that you get when you're more central within the city,” Leeson says. “Having Hy-Vee, Target and Aldi literally a few minutes down the street is a big deal to a lot of people.” Nearby shopping options include:
The Maple Grove Shopping Center, which includes a Pick 'n Save, Walgreens and Poke Bay, a local restaurant specializing in Hawaiian food
The Jamestown Quarry, a mixed-use development that has a Target, Hy-Vee and restaurants like Pancake Cafe
Bavaria Sausage, which sells imported German cheeses, chocolates, merchandise and more

Nearby parks let visitors bike, hike and even fly model planes
Manchester Park takes up 14 acres in the heart of the neighborhood. Visitors can play basketball, walk their dogs, run around the playground and join league sports. Quarry Ridge Recreation Area is a year-round favorite for its cycling and hiking trails. “There are some mountain biking trails that are really popular,” Leeson says. “Quarry Ridge is more outdoorsy-oriented, while Manchester Park is open green space.” Cyclists can also ride down a section of the 40-mile Military Ridge State Trail en route to Badger Prairie County Park, which includes a community garden, a dog park and a field reserved for flying RC planes.

Students can attend Madison public schools or private ones in Verona
Students are zoned to attend the highly rated Madison Metropolitan School District, including walkable Chavez Elementary School, right across Maple Grove Drive. Wisconsin’s school choice policy allows students to apply to public schools outside their attendance zone. They can also apply to voucher-backed private schools and charter schools. Nearby private options include Guidepost Montessori in Verona and the highly rated Verona Area International School, a charter school with a focus on global citizenship and Chinese language immersion.

Route 18 connects Stone Meadows to the rest of Madison
“McKee Road is a major thoroughfare for shopping and amenities, while Route 18 is a major highway that connects with the Beltline around Madison, the loop around the city,” Leeson says. “It makes that trip really quick, as opposed to other neighborhoods that, geographically, would be the same proximity or even less, but with a longer drive due to not having highway access.” Downtown is a 10-mile drive, and Metro Transit’s D-line buses take around 40 minutes to get from McKee Road to the Wisconsin State Capitol. “This is also very close to Epic, which is a huge employer in this area,” Leeson says. “That’s a core geographic point for a lot of people in their search who are moving to Madison.” Health care is also close by at UW Health’s Junction Road Medical Center, 7 miles away.
Stone Meadows and nearby cities host annual events
Stone Meadows’ neighborhood association hosts annual celebrations like a Fourth of July parade, but residents can also drive into Verona for popular events like the Hometown Days carnival. A short drive down McKee Road, Fitchburg's McKee Farms Park hosts a free concert series during the summer. Downtown Madison has its own events, like the Dane County farmers market, which is easily accessible up the highway.
