Located by the Malden River, Bellrock is a pocket community home to Bell Rock Memorial Park. This small neighborhood is on the south side of Malden, and is steps away from bustling commercial areas like Malden Square and the city center. Echoing the city’s multi-cultural character, Bellrock is a diverse and inclusive community surrounded by specialty grocery stores and international restaurants. Multi-unit homes frame the landscape, and residents are within walking distance of city parks, public schools and entertainment venues. “Bellrock has many traditional Victorian homes and multi-family condos,” says Diane Chuha, a Malden native and Realtor at Century 21 with 37 years of experience. “It’s within a walkable distance to the train station and bus stops, and you can also walk along the Malden River.”
Victorian multi-family residences take center stage
Most area homes were built in the first half of the 20th century, featuring Queen Anne and colonial-inspired architectural details such as rounded facades, front porches and symmetrical outlines. Workers Cottages and American Foursquares are also occasionally spotted among multi-family residences. Single-family homes usually sell between $450,000 and about $800,000, and on rare occasions, a fully renovated house may fetch over $1 million. Multi-unit properties are around $800,000 to $900,000, and condos can be between $300,000 and approximately $600,000. Homes here sit right next to each other, so homeowners can expect close neighbors and small yard sizes, which are typically about 2,000 to less than 5,000 square feet. “There’s not a lot of inventory here,” Chuha says. “If the price is right, homes fly off the market these days. We usually get multiple offers and properties are usually well over the asking price.”
