Historic sites and modern parks welcome buyers to East Manhattan
The name Redbud and Sunset offers immediate clues to the historical significance of this east Manhattan neighborhood. In the late 1800s, early homebuilders here planted native redbud trees throughout the Kansas State campus, parks and historic Sunset Cemetery, the oldest cemetery in the city. City landscapers continue to incorporate the bright fuscia-flowering tree into their plantings across the city in parks and along central boulevards, including this neighborhood’s Poyntz Avenue and Sunset Avenue.
“While primarily a neighborhood of 20th-century homes, Redbud and Sunset offers a much broader array of home styles than one might find in other Manhattan neighborhoods,'' says Realtor Megan Thornton, with Keller Williams One Legacy Partners and a Manhattan real estate agent for nearly four years. "The neighborhood also offers a mix of ready-to-renovate homes with competitive prices and those that are fully renovated.” While 19th-century historic sites dot the neighborhood, most homes in Redbud and Sunset are from the 20th century.
