Mantua Township, sitting on an elevated bluff overlooking its namesake creek, features a charming blend of rural and suburban living within commuting distance of Philadelphia. Incorporated in 1853 and boasting a population of just over 15,000 people, this township offers residents top-rated schools, beautiful homes and laidback living. “Mantua has a small-town feel,” says Wynona Jones, librarian at Wenonah Free Public Library next to Mantua Township. “People tend to know each other, and you see people around all the time.”

On a stroll through Mantua Township’s suburban-style neighborhoods, you’ll find wide, curving roads lined with tidy sidewalks. The predominant architectural styles you’ll find here are ranch homes and traditional-style homes, typically perched on lots ranging from a quarter to a half-acre with neat landscaping and a mature tree or two. Most properties have paved driveways that lead to front-entrance garages, with plenty of overflow parking on the residential roads. In this area, you can get a three-bedroom ranch home for around $250,000 or a five-bedroom colonial for around $400,000.

Students in Mantua Township attend schools in the Mantua Township School District and Clearview Regional School District, which receive overall grades of B-minus and A-minus, respectively, from Niche. These include J. Mason Tomlin Elementary School, Kingsway Regional Middle School and Clearview Regional High School. Clearview Regional High, which earns an A-minus grade from Niche, boasts a strong Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) department that hosts an annual showcase of student work.

Enjoy the outdoors at Chestnut Branch Park, located on Main Street. Spanning 109 acres, this public park features athletic fields, a picnic area and several spacious wooded areas with walking trails. Bring kids to the colorful playground with slides and climbing structures or check out the beautiful butterfly garden. To immerse yourself in peaceful nature, head 2 miles south on Main Street to land in Ceres Park. This 52-acre wildlife preserve is a great place to stretch your legs and spot local flora and fauna.

For a game of golf or a casual dinner, swing by Bogey’s on Pitman Road. Enjoy American fare at a table on the patio or sip cocktails by a fire pit. Bogey’s also functions as a popular wedding venue. When you’re craving something sweet, head to locally owned Dippy’s Custard & Ice Cream on Bridgeton Pike for a few scoops or a pretzel.

Get your shopping and errands done at the area’s plethora of local businesses. Stop by Peter’s Barbershop for a haircut, then hop across Main Street to peruse Memory Lane Antiques. On Glassboro Road, you’ll find familiar retailers like Target and Lowe’s. Slightly further north, check out Zimmerman’s Country Market, where you can pick up farm fresh produce and other local goods. Around Halloween, don’t miss the market’s pumpkin patch, corn maze and spiced apple cider.

Most of Mantua Township’s residents travel by car, as public transportation isn’t available. The township is bordered by Route 45 and Route 55, which offer quick and easy access to nearby areas. Situated only 16 miles from Philadelphia, residents can take Route 55 north to land in the heart of the city in a half-hour.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students.
