Convenient, suburban living in Maplewood Heights
Maplewood Heights offers a classic suburban Twin Cities lifestyle between serene Silver Lake and the busy Maplewood Mall/White Bear Avenue commercial district. The north Maplewood location, combining convenience and calm, is the main draw. “It’s easy to get around here. We have two major freeways that are more or less on the perimeter,” says Realtor Ron Knutsen of Homes Plus Realty, referring to Interstate 694 and State Road 36. “There are a good number of restaurants nearby, grocery stores within a reasonable proximity and parks all around.”

Single-family homes and row houses sell for under $450,000

Several varieties of maple trees—including silver, sugar and red—are also common. Townhomes are available in the Woodlynn Ponds subdivision, on the neighborhood’s northwest side. Single-family homes sell for between about $280,000 and $420,000. Townhome prices typically range from $270,000 to $350,000. “The hottest market in our area right now is the $250,000 to $400,000 range,” says Knutsen, who has over three decades of real estate experience.
Summers here are warm, with average high temperatures reaching about 80 degrees. Winters are cold, with lows often dropping below freezing. Maplewood typically gets around 50 inches of snow annually. Knutsen says flooding is not a primary concern, but most homes with basements do have sump pumps as a precaution.

Shopping/dining in the Maplewood Mall area

The historical society offers youth summer camps at the barn, too, with themes like farm-to-table and history detectives. Kohl’s and JCPenney anchor Maplewood Mall, less than 2 miles from most homes. The indoor shopping center also has a Barnes & Noble, a Sephora, clothing retailers and national chain restaurants, including Outback and Olive Garden. “Brick-and-mortar shopping is becoming a thing of the past, but the restaurants are still pretty popular and do very well,” Knutsen says. Myth Live is a nearby performance venue known for rock, alternative, electronic and hip-hop shows. Strip malls along White Bear Avenue and Lydia Avenue feature stores like Aldi, Hobby Lobby and Harbor Freight. Knutsen says a perk of the neighborhood is proximity to two Hy-Vee locations, one on White Bear Avenue and one in the Oakdale area. “It’s a very nice, well-stocked grocery store,” he says.
