Heritage Highlands at Dove Mountain
Gated community with Spanish Revival homes
The Highlands is a gated community densely packed with a mix of single-family homes and townhouses, mostly dating back to the turn of the 21st century. Like much of greater Tucson, homes here show Spanish Revival designs and share grass-free lots with cacti and other typical desert plants. Dirt paths outside the community allow residents to enjoy relaxing strolls and views of the desert scenery. Single-family homes with footprints between 1,000 and 2,000 square feet mainly run between $300,000 and $600,000, while larger builds slightly exceed that range. Townhouses also run between $400,000 and $500,000.The neighborhood has an overall CAP Index Crime Score of 1 out of 10, compared to the national average of 4.
From golf outings to hikes up the Tortolita Mountains
The Highlands at Dove Mountain golf course is the signature recreational draw. The public course offers 18 holes, with the back nine considered more challenging due to its hilly playing grounds. The clubhouse area also has other sports amenities. “Anytime I’ve been in the community, you see the residents utilizing the tennis courts, pickleball courts, the golf amenities,” Wiggins says. “There’s also a lot of classroom spaces that always seem to have some kind of workshops or class going on.”Outdoor enthusiasts are minutes from the Tortolita Mountains, where miles of trails wind through rugged terrain and lead to scenic sights. Along the way, hikers might even pass the stone remains of abandoned structures.Salads, pizzas and wine at the Highlands Bar & Grille
In addition to its fitness facilities, the community’s clubhouse houses a restaurant called the Highlands Bar & Grille. Patrons can enjoy anything from pepper-topped salads to pizza and cheesecakes. One of the nearest eateries outside the Highlands is the Dove Mountain Brewing Company, where regulars enjoy craft drinks and flights with various comfort snacks. A few more options exist a little farther east in the shopping center anchored by Fry’s Marketplace. Dining staples there include Nico’s Taco Shop and the Dove M Chinese Bistro, which also serves beer from China.Dancing to bluegrass in the desert
The neighborhood is close to many of Marana’s annual festivities. Among the town events the Dove Mountain community promotes is March’s Desert Bluegrass Festival, which takes place at Gladden Farms Community Park about 10 miles west of the Highlands. Over three days, spectators dance to Appalachian-rooted string tunes and can even participate in songwriting activities.I-10 commute to downtown Tucson
Heritage Highlands sits right along Dove Mountain Boulevard, which later turns to Twin Peaks Road and connects to Interstate 10. Commuters take the interstate to reach downtown Tucson, about 20 miles south. The neighborhood is also about 28 miles north of the Tucson International Airport, the region’s hub for commercial flights. Located about 10 miles east, the Oro Valley Hospital addresses the area’s medical needs.Dove Mountain CSTEM K-8’s unique curriculum and activities
