Ironwood Reserve
Dense blocks of suburban Spanish Revivals
Dense groups of Spanish Revival homes line quiet roads winding across the neighborhood. The homes sit on lots no larger than a quarter acre and consist of single- and two-story builds. A section of Ironwood Reserve, called Ironwood Ridge, is also gated. Like across much of the Tucson area, the homes face gravel yards dotted with cacti, mesquite and palo verde trees and bushes. Depending on size, homes can start around $350,000 and climb to nearly $800,000. Ironwood Reserve’s median price is also about $200,000 above Tucson’s.Ironwood Reserve's overall CAP Index crime score is 1 out of 10, which is below the national average of 4.
Hikes and petroglyph sites in Tucson Mountains
Saguaro National Park boasts well over 100 miles of trails across rugged landscapes dotted with unmistakable saguaro cacti. Unique attractions close to the neighborhood include a petroglyph site showing numerous drawings from the Hohokam period. Those interested in exploring 5,900 acres of private desert landscape on horseback can book rides through Tucson Mountain Stables. The neighborhood is also close to a section of the national trail honoring the historic Juan Bautista de Anza-led expedition to San Francisco. “That’s kind of what people like about Tucson. You can drive from anywhere and be out in the desert in an hour. We have all the saguaros, too. There’s just thousands of saguaros,” says Bob Anderson, the owner of Tucson Mountain Stables.Steaks, desserts and Southwest favorites on Silverbell
The neighborhood is down the street from some commercial strips on North Silverbell Road. La Olla Mexican Cafe serves beers, margaritas and Southwestern fare in a casual space. Li’l Abner’s Steakhouse cooks its meats on wood grills built into massive concrete blocks. The inside of the restaurant features Western-themed decor, while patrons may also dine and enjoy live music on the outdoor patio. In addition to bar foods and drinks, Home Plate Marana keeps batting cages and pool tables. For desserts, there’s Jeremiah’s Italian Ice, which neighbors a Safeway grocery store. The neighborhood is also a few miles from Tucson Premium Outlets. “That’s a big draw for people. Then, you’re very close to the restaurants at the next exit off of Cortaro,” Clark-Munday says.Marana High’s dual-enrollment opportunities
Students may start at Rattlesnake Ridge Elementary School, which gets an A-minus from Niche. They may then attend Marana middle and high schools, which both get B grades from Niche. Marana High’s recent accolades include a boys’ state wrestling champion and a student thespian qualifying for a highly-regarded national Shakespeare competition. The school’s curriculum includes dual-enrollment credit opportunities with Pima Community College and the University of Arizona. The Redeemer Lutheran School offers a nearby private option. Affiliated with the Redeemer Lutheran Church, the school serves prekindergarten to eighth grade.Close to Marana’s signature July 4 celebration
The neighborhood is close to a few of Marana’s annual festivities. On July 4, many flock to Crossroads at Silverbell District Park for the Star-Spangled Spectacular. In addition to the signature fireworks display, attractions include a car show and petting zoo. A few dozen vendors also come out to sell both foods and crafts. The park also serves as one of the locations for Movies in Marana, a free outdoor series that usually runs from the spring to the fall.A few miles from I-10 commute
Commuters are a few miles from Interstate 10, which goes to downtown Tucson about 17 miles south. The interstate also leads travelers to the Tucson International Airport, the region’s hub for commercial flights. With its 13 beds and inpatient services, the Carondelet Marana Emergency Center offers the nearest hospital facility.
