Resort living next to Sonoran Desert preserve
In the suburban town of Marana, Arizona, The Preserve at Dove Mountain forms part of a larger master-planned development offering a resort-style community amid scenic surroundings. In addition to its proximity to one of the Tucson region’s mountain ranges, the community acts as a gateway to the Tortolita Preserve, a 2,400-acre slice of the Sonoran Desert popular among outdoor enthusiasts. When not walking among the iconic saguaros, many here can take in the area from the comfort of a patio as they sip on a palette of craft brews. “It’s all pretty new, it’s clear and there’s a great view of the sunset and sunrises,” says Beth Crowley, a long-time Dove Mountain resident and the owner of a mixed media business called Tin Road Art. “There’s plenty of places to go do things up here.”
Gated community with Spanish and Pueblo Revival homes
This gated neighborhood’s features include entrance signs with silhouettes of a howling coyote and road runner and medians covered in common Sonoran plants like barrel and saguaro cacti and palo verde trees. “You feel it was designed, respectfully, to the environment and the mountains. It was designed to capture the beauty of that area,” Tony Ray Baker, a Realtor with Re/Max Professionals, says about the entire Dove Mountain area.
The Preserve consists of Spanish and Pueblo Revival homes, some of which come with amenities like backyard pools. Homes costs mostly run between $500,000 and $800,000, but some of the most luxurious options can reach to $1 million. The neighborhood also has an overall CAP Index score of 1 out of 10, putting it below the national average of 4.

A gateway to the Tortolita Preserve
The primarily flat Tortolita Preserve is convenient for hikers looking for gentler treks. “We live and breathe the desert,” Baker says. “It’s a beautiful walking area. It’s a great spot to go hiking. You can go horseback riding, and it’s a great place for birders.”
The Preserve is also right down the road from the Highlands at Dove Mountain, a public 18-hole golf course in the neighborhood of the same name. Located south of The Preserve, the Tangerine Sky Community Park has a playground and paved trails for relaxing walks. Park visitors might even pass by some art installations depicting local wildlife.

A few miles from I-10 travel
The Preserve is about 4 miles from Interstate 10, which offers a route toward downtown Tucson and Phoenix. The neighborhood is about 18 miles north of downtown Tucson. Although the Tucson International Airport is the region’s hub for commercial flights, the Marana area is less than an hour and a half from the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. “Some people will choose to just drive straight into the Phoenix airport and take the flight out of there,” Baker says, referring to how some travelers will drive to Phoenix to avoid layovers. About 15 minutes east, the Oro Valley Hospital addresses medical needs.
