Businesses, churches and residential communities within Fort Hill-Roosevelt
The Fort Hill-Roosevelt area of Marietta is an up-and-coming neighborhood that has seen a lot of development recently, drawing new interest from people looking to move to the area, says Visit Marietta Marketing Manager Gina Duncan. It also neighbors downtown and the Marietta Square. “It’s walking distance, and that’s always a plus,” she says. The neighborhood is a mix of residential communities to the north, and businesses, offices and other services in the south. A veterinary clinic, multiple childcare centers and a residential recovery program for people experiencing homelessness and substance misuse disorders can all be found in the area. Multiple churches are spread throughout the neighborhood. The Marietta National Cemetery sits at the edge in the southwest corner.
Condos and single-family homes available
There are more than 300 homes lining the narrow, hilly tree-lined streets in Fort Hill-Roosevelt. Properties include condos and townhomes, which list between $450,000 and 590,000, as well as single-family homes. Smaller homes, averaging about 1,000 square feet, include ranches and bungalows built between the 1940s and 1960s and sell for between $370,000 and $450,000. Newer construction, Craftsman-style homes list for more than $600,000, including one recently on the market for nearly $1.5 million.
Elementary choice program at Marietta schools
Children in the neighborhood are zoned for A.L. Burruss Elementary, the Marietta Sixth Grade Academy and Marietta Middle School, which all have a B-plus on Niche. Marietta High School has an A-minus. The Marietta system has a choice program at the elementary level, allowing parents to request transfers to other schools within the district. The Walker School is a top-ranked private school in the area that serves about 900 students in prekindergarten through 12th grade.
Multiple dining options at Marietta Square and along Roswell Street
For dining options, residents can walk to the Marietta Square for any of the numerous locally owned restaurants. “You really can’t go wrong,” Duncan says. Especially popular are long-time favorites Taqueria Tsunami and Two Birds Taphouse. The Square also has many clothing boutiques, and an independent bookshop called The Reading Attic. The Roswell Street shopping corridor to the east of the neighborhood also has several options, including Haitian and Cuban cuisine. Residents will also find Walmart and Sam’s Club along Roswell Street for groceries and other needs.
Playgrounds, splashpads and hiking at area parks
The Hugh L. Grogan Jr. Community Center is at Lawrence Street Park in the neighborhood. It houses the Marietta Police Athletic League, which offers sports and recreational programs to try to prevent youth crime and violence. Just north of the neighborhood is Elizabeth Porter Park, which has a large splashpad, and a playground at Birney Street Park. The Mountain to River Trail, accessible downtown, leads northwest to Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park. This park is a good place for hiking and learning about the area's history, including a Civil War battle.
Transportation and events near Fort Hill-Roosevelt
The neighborhood sits between two major thoroughfares, North Marietta Parkway and Roswell Street. North Marietta Parkway runs east to Interstate 75. Multiple bus stops encircle the neighborhood and are part of CobbLinc, the Cobb County Transit Service. Fort Hill-Roosevelt's walkability and proximity to the Marietta Square also means that residents can easily attend many of the year-round events held there, including weekly farmers markets and monthly art walks. The popular Chalktoberfest in October features artists from across the country and includes live music and children’s activities, as well as beer and wine tastings. Lunchtime and evening concert series are held during the spring and summer.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
