Young families choosing to call Whitlock home have an array of choices
Whitlock is a small, quiet neighborhood between downtown Marietta and the city’s conference center. The area has a mix of housing options, and its character can change street by street. Manicured lawns and white picket fences can be found in some areas, and homes tucked in behind wooded yards can be found in others. “There are many, many young families moving in,” says Dorothy Woodruff, a longtime resident and a member of the city’s Historic Board of Review. Though less than a mile from the lively Marietta Square, Whitlock is less walkable than other neighborhoods near downtown because it is bordered by the busy Whitlock Avenue and Marietta Parkway.
Colonial Revivals, townhomes and new construction
Whitlock has multiple housing styles and options, including cozy, 1920s Colonial Revivals. “There are a lot of historic homes going down Whitlock Avenue,” Woodruff says. There are also homes built in 2023 as well as spacious townhomes, which sell for just over $500,000. There are close to 300 homes in the neighborhood. Most homes, regardless of style, list between $500,000 and $1 million, depending on size and proximity to Marietta Square.
