Community and accessibility across the river in Marion
Along the banks of the Mississinewa River, Bend of the River’s residential streets combine access to amenities and Marion’s various green spaces. Both the riverwalk and the hospital are just across the river from the community, with the walkway leading to Matter Park—one of Marion’s most popular parks. With downtown Marion also across the river, residents can discover the growing culture in Marion, with new shops and restaurants going up all the time. “It’s a smaller hometown feel where most people know each other. You basically meet people just being out—your kids are in involved in sports or you meet at community events,” says Sally Jenks, Realtor with RE/MAX Realty One. “But its big enough that it does have some options for shopping and restaurants.”

Learning to swim at the YMCA down the street
While Bend of the River itself doesn’t have any parks within the neighborhood, it is the home of the YMCA of Grant County. Kids and adults can learn to swim at the indoor pool or attend health and nutrition programs. On the other side of the river, kids can run around the three different fields with their teammates at Ballard Field Soccer Complex. However, families watching will have to bring their own lawn chairs or picnic blankets because the facility doesn’t have stands. Along the river, the Mississinewa Riverwalk stretches for 2.25 miles, the paved pathway welcoming bikers, walkers and joggers. “Matter Park is along the riverwalk and is beautifully landscaped with a community center that people rent out for weddings,” Jenks says. “They also have great facilities for kids with handicaps—there’s a whole section for it.” The flower gardens here are bursting with colorful blooms with butterflies fluttering past sculptures and water features.
