Marion's triangle of residential streets and the hospital

Bounded within the triangle formed by Wabash, Baldwin and Spencer avenues, Euclid Triangle is a small selection of residential streets, with the local hospital working as a focal point in the southeastern corner. “We used to have a lot of manufacturing, but then it kind of all went to pot,” says broker Sally Jenks with RE/MAX Realty One with a laugh. She highlights that while General Motors still has a strong presence in Marion, Indiana Wesleyan University and the Marion Health Hospital are now up there with Marion’s major employers. Other than being close to work, Euclid Triangle has its own restaurants and shops between Baldwin and Western Avenues. Northern Marion’s parks are also close by, more accessible than other parts of the city.

Cape Cods, Colonials and ranch-style homes in Euclid Triangle

Most of Euclid Triangle’s winding streets offer ranch-style homes built between the 50s and 70s, with trees sitting in front yards and basketball hoops in driveways. Sidewalks line some of the streets. Berkley Drive, for example, doesn’t have them, but instead has shaped bushes and ornamental trees providing homes a bit of privacy. Fenton Road has streetlights for those walking their dogs in the evenings. Along Euclid Avenue, a median divides the street, with trees at regular intervals. Across both sides of the thoroughfare, there’s a mix of Cape Cods, Colonial Revivals and the occasional custom build. Homes across the neighborhood typically sell between $50,000 and $250,000. Two churches sit in the neighborhood, within walking distance—Marion Reformed Presbyterian Church and Temple Congregational Church.

Strolling along to the river to Matter Park

Just beyond the hospital, the Mississinewa River flows through the eastern side of Marion. People can stroll along the Mississinewa Riverwalk all the way from downtown to Matter Park, stretching for over 2 miles. It passes through Willis Van DeVanter Park, which offers plenty of open space along the water. A memorial statue here pays homage to those who fought in the War of 1812 battle that took place here. People come here to play with their dogs with the river as the backdrop, while others host birthday parties at its pavilion. At the end of the riverwalk, kids can play on the two playgrounds. “There’s a pond where you can do laps and get your steps in,” says broker Kayla Poling with F.C. Tucker Realty Center. “And a lot of people rent the butterfly garden for events—there are lots of different pictures taken there for weddings and prom.”

War of 1812 reenactments and holiday lights

Every October, residents meet at the Highland Avenue bridge and head down the river for the War of 1812 Reenactment. Everyone shows up in era-appropriate dress and even eat dishes from the time period. In the winter, people can walk through light displays throughout Matter Park for the Walkway of Lights. The city sets up a Santa’s Village, where kids can stop in to talk to the elves and people can shop for small gifts.
