Neighborhoods off Marion's Western Avenue
On the western side of Marion, Laurel Valley sits comfortably on either side of Western Avenue. The thoroughfare runs down the center of the neighborhood, lined with local restaurants and shops and with housing developments on each side. The road also splits the neighborhood’s lifestyle. The western half has a more rural and industrial feel, with factories, warehouses and cornfields fading into its residential streets. Meanwhile, the eastern half’s more compact neighborhoods feel more like Marion’s other central suburbs.

Just next door, Jay’s Thai Marion serves classic Thai dishes and Thai tea with boba pearls. Aldi is located within the community, just off Western Avenue. Further down the thoroughfare, the Walmart Supercenter is just over 1 mile away, while Meijer is about 2 miles away.

Earning early high school credit at McCulloch Junior High
Laurel Valley students can attend Frances Slocum Elementary School for kindergarten through fourth grade. The school receives a C from Niche. Fifth and sixth grade students head to Justice Thurgood Marshall Intermediate School, which earns a C-plus. C-rated John L. McCulloch Junior High School allows students to earn high school credit early in required courses like English and science. Marion High School earns a B.

Busing to the grocery stores in Laurel Valley
While most residents will need a car to get around Laurel Valley and Marion, two bus lines serve the community — the Central Marion bus route stops along Valley Avenue and stops at Walmart, while the Indiana Wesleyan University route goes down Western Avenue and stops downtown and at Aldi. Downtown Marion is 2 miles east, lined by Baldwin Avenue. The city’s hospital — Marion Health Family Medical Center — is also there. When traveling by plane, residents will have to head 81.5 miles south to Indianapolis International Airport.
Laural Valley would not be complete without a Walmart Supercenter.

Biking and walking down the Cardinal Greenway Trail
In the northwest corner of the neighborhood, Webster Park is mainly open space dotted with trees, but does offer basketball and tennis courts. Hogin Park is opposite it on the far northeastern side of Laurel Valley, with bocce and volleyball courts and a skatepark. The Cardinal Greenway Trail cuts through this greenspace and continues down the eastern side of Laurel Valley, where residents can walk, bike or skate through Marion.
The 62-mile long Cardinal Greenway runs through Hogin Park in Laural Valley.
Enjoy a walk through natural surroundings along the Mississinewa Riverwalk.

Matter Park's annual seasonal celebrations
Most city events take place in Matter Park on the northern side of the city. In October, the Marion Fall Festival takes people around the park on hayrides and offers live music and local vendors selling fall-themed goodies. In the winter, the park lights up for the Walkway of Lights. About 2 million lights make up the displays, open from Thanksgiving through New Years, and people can walk or drive through.
