Northeast Marion's private and centralized neighborhood feel
On the eastern edges of the city, Northeast Marion is a quiet residential community. Separated from downtown Marion by the river, Northeast Marion offers a more suburban feel than other parts of the city, with rows of homes sitting on sloped front yards. Still, Northeast Marion offers a centralized location—sitting just a mile from downtown Marion’s restaurants and growing commercial scene and Matter Park, Marion’s biggest recreational space.
Northeast Marion is known for its stock of small to mid sized homes.

Nationals and bungalows on sloping front yards
On the western side of Northeast Marion, long streets stretch down the length of the community until Pennsylvania Street, lined with Nationals, bungalows and ranch-style homes. Properties sit on small slopes, turning downward towards the road with steps set into the hill connecting front walkways to the sidewalks. Some properties are overflowing with blooms in the front garden, carefully tended to by owners, while others are more open and minimalist. On the eastern side of Pennsylvania Street is the Brinker Heights subdivision, with curving streets featuring ranch-style homes. Yards are open on this side of the neighborhood, with only the occasional crop of trees dropping leaves onto the yard. Homes throughout the neighborhood range between $25,000 and $150,000. Compared to other parts of the city, Northeast Marion’s homes are typically in move-in condition, though some on the lower end of the cost spectrum might require some additional time and investment.

Northeast Marion's volunteer-maintained dog park
Off Walnut Street, Ultimutt Dog Park is a space where furry friends can run and play within the safety of the fence. Built and maintained by Marion volunteers, dog owners from all over the city come to this park with their pets, saving them a trip to a nearby town in Grant County. On the other side of the river, Ballard Field Soccer Complex offers 3 soccer fields with additional practice spaces across its 19 acres. The space hosts Marion’s local soccer leagues, though spectators will have to bring their own chairs when watching the games. Up north along the Mississinewa River, Matter Park occupies 101 acres, with over 6 acres dedicated just to its extensive wildflower and butterfly gardens. A walking trail snakes through the green, passing the tennis and volleyball courts and the playgrounds. While some people fish on the river, folks can also come to Matter Park to fish at the catch-and-release pond.
Matter Park offers a women's pickleball league to residents of Bend of the River.

Fall festivals and county fairs around Northeast Marion
In October, Matter Park hosts Marion Fall Festival, inviting the city out to celebrate the season with costume contests, hayrides around the park and s’mores around the bonfire. “The big 1812 Festival is a celebration and reenactment of the War of 1812,” says broker Sally Jenks with RE/MAX Realty One. “Everyone is in costume, and everything has to be for the period, even the food.” The group meets on the south side of Highland Bridge and recreates the Battle of Mississinewa Monument, drawing people from all over the city to participate. Just off 3rd Street, the Grant County Fairgrounds offers carnival rides, animal shows and tractor pulls at the annual Grant County Fair every June.
