Indiana Wesleyan University and Marion's public K-12
Indiana Wesleyan University is a private Christian university, founded in Marion over 100 years ago in 1919. The sprawling 350-acre campus houses over 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students, making it the largest private college in Indiana and on the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities. On campus, the Chapel Auditorium hosts the school’s worship services, but also concerts from notable Christian performers like Lauren Daigle and Switchfoot. For those just beginning their education, Frances Slocum Elementary School serves kindergarten through fourth grade and receives a C from Niche. For fifth and sixth grades, Justice Intermediate School receives a C-plus. With a C ranking, McCulloch Junior High School helps students get a head start on their secondary education by offering the 21st Century Scholars Program. South Marion residents head to other parts of town for parks
One thing South Marion has a shortage of is park space. While residents can take walks through the neighborhood to get outside, South Marion itself doesn’t offer any parks or recreational space within it or in the near vicinity. However, Marion Splash House is close by, offering a wave pool and lazy river throughout the summer. Schroder also states that residents all around Marion head to Matter Park to stroll through the manicured butterfly and wildflower gardens or play a round of tennis and pickleball. The grounds also feature two different playgrounds for kids to try.

Restaurants and supermarkets along Western Avenue
Western Avenue runs along the western side of the neighborhood, lined with supermarkets and restaurants. Aldi, Meijer and Walmart are all within 1 mile of South Marion, all located along this strip. Casa Brava Authentic Mexican Cuisine serves classic Mexican fare in a dining room with vibrant yellow and red walls. A bit north, The Abbey Coffee Co is somewhere residents might see students out—this coffeeshop has a converted warehouse feel with high ceilings and wood furniture with iron accents across the downstairs and upstairs seating areas. Connecting to downtown and the hospital via Nebraska Street
While most of what South Marion residents need is along Western Avenue, when heading into downtown Marion, people can take Nebraska and Adams streets the 2.5 miles. Nebraska Street also links people with Marion Health Family Medical Center, just over 2.5 miles away. Marion isn’t home to its own commercial airport, so those traveling longer distances can head to Indianapolis International Airport, 80 miles south.

In October, Marion locals gather in Matter Park for Marion Fall Festival, where they can take hayrides around the grounds or shop the different local vendors at the Fall Mall. For over 30 years, this late summer tradition brings various vehicles out for people to view, from vintage cars and tractors to military vehicles and antique aircraft.
