Walkable parks and programs from The Village
The Village is a small rectangular-shaped neighborhood comprised of low-density residential and industrial space between downtown Marion and the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University. Most of the community’s amenities are nearby, located just beyond The Village’s borders, though many are still within walking distance. From neighborhood pubs, manufacturing jobs, a waterpark and the Boys and Girls Club of Grant County, residents have plenty to do and access from within The Village.
The Village's Boys and Girls Club and the nearby waterpark
The Boys and Girls Club of Grant County offers health and empowerment programs just a few blocks from homes in The Village. Just a bit north of the community, Marion Splash House is where people cool off in the summer, open Memorial Day through Labor Day. “It’s very popular because of the racer slides,” says Layla Price-Bodkin, supervisor of Marketing and Community Development for the City of Marion. “There’s even a wave pool and we have the largest waves. And if you’re into surfing, you can do that.” The Cardinal Greenway Trail goes right past the waterpark, where people can walk, jog, bike and skate along the 62-mile path stretching through the city and beyond.

Exploring vintage aircraft at the airport and Christmas lights at the park
Because The Village is on the southern half of the city, people here are closer to the municipal airport — while it doesn’t have commercial flights, it does host events, like the annual Fly/In Cruise/In. The event showcases different vintage and antique vehicles and aircraft. “It’s been around for 30-plus years,” Price-Bodkin says. “I got to go up in a 1928 airplane.” On the opposite side of town, Matter Park hosts the annual Walkway of Lights, where over 2 million lights bring the park to life every evening from Thanksgiving to New Years.
Residents of The Village can find a nice quiet spot at Matter Park to relax.
The playground at Matter Park is a popular destination for The Village children.

Taking the bus to the grocery store or downtown
Factories and industrial facilities sit on the western side of The Village, including Indiana Corrugated and Ozark’s Materials. Café Valley, an industrial-scale commercial bakery, is just south of the community. Together, all three support Marion’s industrial workforce. However, those not working close to home can go down Adams Street to downtown, just 2 miles away. Marion Health Family Medical Center is just 2.5 miles north and is another major employer for the city. Multiple bus routes run through the neighborhood, linking residents with amenities like downtown and the supermarkets.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
