Heading up 4th Street to downtown Marion
While sidewalks connect West Marion with its local parks, most residents get around by car. The city, however, operates a bus system that serves this side of the community on the West Point line, which takes passengers to points downtown and the Walmart on the southside. Fourth Street runs east, connecting people on this side of the city with downtown Marion, with 3rd Street heading in the opposite direction for when residents are ready to head home. Western Avenue links residents with the area’s grocery stores and Indiana Wesleyan University, one of Grant County and Marion’s biggest employers. Along the Mississinewa River, Marion Health Family Medical Center is 2.5 miles away. When preparing for more distant travel, West Marion residents head south to fly out of Indianapolis International Airport, 81 miles away.
There are always people out and about enjoying a stroll on the Mississinewa Riverwalk.
While the bus system in West Marion is not extensive, it does exist to get people downtown.

Marion's arts schools and programs
For kindergarten through fourth grade, West Marion students can attend John W. Kendall Elementary School. After, they graduate to Justice Thurgood Marshall Intermediate School for fifth and sixth grade. Both schools receive C-plus ratings from Niche. John L. McCulloch Junior High School earns a C ranking. With a B from Niche, Marion High School offers the School of the Arts Program, where students enrolled at Marion’s Community School of the Arts can take their general classes online with a flexible schedule so they can focus on their artistic endeavors. Located in downtown Marion, the school's artistic programs range from visual arts and dance to music and culinary arts.

Neighborhood baseball fields and playgrounds
In the northeast corner of the neighborhood, Lincoln Park offers six baseball diamonds. Kids can head to Seventh Michigan Park to play on the playground or run around the open space. The Cardinal Greenway Trail runs along the northern portion of West Marion, where people can walk, bike or skate along the paved pathway. While it cuts through Marion, it stretches 62 miles across Indiana, running through other cities and towns. In downtown Marion along the river, Ballard Field Soccer Complex hosts the city’s local leagues at its three fields, but families watching their kids play should pack their own blankets and chairs because there are no stands here.

Celebrating fall in Matter Park
In October, Matter Park on the northern side of the city hosts Marion Fall Festival. Hayrides bring visitors around the park, and people dressed up can enter in costume contests. At the end of the evening, people can warm up by the bonfire and make s’mores. While James Dean was born in Marion, he grew up a few towns over in Fairmount, and every year, the town celebrates the actor with the James Dean Festival every September. All throughout downtown Fairmount, visitors can find classic cars, movie screenings and James Dean lookalikes.
Marion is home to monuments dedicated to James Dean, located near West Marion.
Matter Park offers a women's pickleball league to residents of Bend of the River.
