40s and 50s bungalows and ranches in West Marion
Bungalows and ranch-style homes built mainly in the late 1940s and early 50s line the streets in West Marion. They typically sell for between $20,000 and $120,000. Residents can walk the dog or take an evening stroll along the narrow sidewalks throughout the neighborhood, though but some streets closer to the edge of the city don’t have them. Returning home from work, some motorists ease their cars over loose gravel on the side of neighborhood streets with telephone poles and streetlights hanging overhead. West Marion receives an overall CAP Crime Safety Index Score of 8, compared to the national average of 4.Neighborhood baseball fields and playgrounds
In the northeast corner of the neighborhood, Lincoln Park offers six baseball diamonds. Kids can head to Seventh Michigan Park to play on the playground or run around the open space. The Cardinal Greenway Trail runs along the northern portion of West Marion, where people can walk, bike or skate along the paved pathway. While it cuts through Marion, it stretches 62 miles across Indiana, running through other cities and towns. In downtown Marion along the river, Ballard Field Soccer Complex hosts the city’s local leagues at its three fields, but families watching their kids play should pack their own blankets and chairs because there are no stands here.Marion's arts schools and programs

In October, Matter Park on the northern side of the city hosts Marion Fall Festival. Hayrides bring visitors around the park, and people dressed up can enter in costume contests. At the end of the evening, people can warm up by the bonfire and make s’mores. While James Dean was born in Marion, he grew up a few towns over in Fairmount, and every year, the town celebrates the actor with the James Dean Festival every September. All throughout downtown Fairmount, visitors can find classic cars, movie screenings and James Dean lookalikes.Heading up 4th Street to downtown Marion

The city, however, operates a bus system that serves this side of the community on the West Point line, which takes passengers to points downtown and the Walmart on the southside. Fourth Street runs east, connecting people on this side of the city with downtown Marion, with 3rd Street heading in the opposite direction for when residents are ready to head home. Western Avenue links residents with the area’s grocery stores and Indiana Wesleyan University, one of Grant County and Marion’s biggest employers. Just across Lyons Avenue in Westside, 9th Street Café’s menu features breakfast and lunch specials spanning from pancakes to meatloaf and shrimp. It has a very casual atmosphere with an old-fashioned diner feel frequented by locals only. Down Western Avenue, The Abbey Coffee Co. is where residents can stop for a morning caffeine fix. The shop's high ceilings and iron and wood furniture give it a converted-warehouse vibe with Edison bulbs adding warmth and light. “We don’t have a mall, so a lot of people like to spend local,” says Realtor Kayla Poling with F.C. Tucker Realty Center. “A lot of coffeeshops do really well here. We are just really great at supporting small businesses.” Also down Western Avenue, Aldi is 1.5 miles from West Marion, while the Walmart Supercenter is 2.5 miles away.
