Green, rural living in East Ohio
Madison is a sparse and green neighborhood outside the small city of Newark. Situated 100 miles south of Lake Erie and 50 miles east of Columbus, Madison is green and spacious. The median income is higher than in the rest of Ohio here, and homes are usually well-preserved and historic, situated below and atop the hills and small mountains prevalent in East Ohio.
Historic and newer homes on big lots
At the top of this market, home buyers will find stunning plantation-style colonials with wraparound porches and multiple bedrooms and baths on 10-acre-plus lots of rolling farmland and old-growth forests for under $1 million. The ubiquitous Ohio white ash and buckeye trees rim the horizon, along with sycamores, sugar maples and beech trees. Grand old colonials from the 19th century with original fireplaces and additions such as two-car garages on lots over 5 acres closer to Newark are listed for under $750,000. At the bottom of the price range, long ranch-style Fairmont manufactured homes can be found on acre-sized lots in the shadows of mountains for under $300,000.

On the edge of Madison, where the urban section starts, patrons will find fast food chains and regional and local family restaurants, from pizza to Tex-Mex.
