Marple Township Delaware offers daily convenience and city proximity

Established in 1684, Marple Township Delaware is a suburban community with commuting convenience, situated only 10 miles from Philadelphia and anchored in Delaware County. It's simply called Marple Township, or just Marple, by locals. "It's got a highly rated school district with low taxes. Affordability for families is one of the biggest reasons people move here," says Suzi King, a local Realtor who has over two decades of experience selling homes. Having grown up in Marple Township, she says it's still one of her favorite places to be. "It's in a great location off Interstate 476, so even during the worst traffic, you're less than an hour from Philadelphia." She notes that while many residents of Marple commute to the city for work, the township's school district and several retail areas provide employment opportunities within the community.

Wide range of home styles and prices around the township

Marple Township is defined by its quiet streets and cul-de-sacs, with neatly trimmed front lawns and pocket parks. "The township is mainly made up of subdivisions, with a lot of classic home styles, and some new construction. It's a good mix," King says. "The price range is pretty impressive for what you can get, and again, Delaware County has lower taxes than most surrounding counties." Midcentury townhomes sell between $240,000 and $ 420,000, while midcentury ranch-style homes, split-levels and Colonial Revivals typically sell for $410,000 to $900,000. Newer homes in the township, built between 1990 and the present day, can sell for $925,000 and $2 million. The township's CAP Index Crime Score is 2 out of 10, below the national average of 4.

The Marple Township Parks and Recreation Department maintains 10 green spaces throughout the community, ranging from small pocket parks to expansive ball fields that host the local Little League teams. "Veterans Memorial Park is one of the more popular parks in the area. It's got an awesome playground for the kids and a really great walking path. My parents go there every day," King says. Sitting adjacent to Veterans Memorial is a community swimming pool, as well as basketball courts. "I know a lot of residents play over at Paxon Hollow Country Club, especially since it's open to the public."

Chain retailers and family-owned eateries serve the township

Clustered near the township's south side are several retail areas, housing big-box stores, such as Walmart, as well as national retailers and chain restaurants. "It's nice to not have to leave the area if you want to run errands," Campbell says. "Marple was a dry township until just a few years ago, so now places can get a liquor license. It's a franchise, but we finally got a P.J. Whelihan's pub, so that was exciting." She notes that West Chester Pike is considered a main street, especially when it comes to finding local businesses. The family-owned Apple Walnut Café has been serving the community fresh brunch dishes, desserts and sandwiches for years.

Major highways connect Marple to Philadelphia and beyond

Marple is bordered by Interstate 476, U.S. Route 1 and Pennsylvania Route 3, also known as West Chester Pike. The three thoroughfares are essential for not only getting around the immediate area but also for traveling to nearby cities in the state. Via Route 3, Philadelphia is only 10 miles away from the township. "Traffic does definitely back up. Everyone commutes either on the pike or on I-476 and takes our exit, which just leads to typical congestion that happens near a city," King says. The township is 2 miles from the Havertown campus of Kindred Hospital, and proximity to the city means relatively quick access to the Philadelphia International Airport.
