Sixth graders move on to Colin Powell Middle, which is just on the other side of Interstate 57 and receives a C-minus from Niche. Older students may attend Rich Township High, which also earns a C rating. With Interstate 57 running just east of the neighborhood, residents can drive the 30 miles to Chicago in just 35 to 45 minutes, depending on traffic. "West Matteson is outside the hubbub but still smack dab in the loop," Banks says. She explains that residents without cars can access their local Metra train line at 211th Street and Lincoln Highway or take the Pace bus to travel along Matteson's main thoroughfares. Even though West Matteson is right next to rural areas, a trip to the city via train only takes about 45 minutes. "And that's including stops," Banks says. To find the closest airport, residents can head about 23 miles north along Cicero Avenue to get to Chicago Midway International. For the closest hospital, residents can find Franciscan Health about three miles east in Olympia Fields.Shopping and dining along Lincoln Highway
West Matteson is primarily a residential area, so residents have to drive east of Interstate 57 to get groceries or eat out. When cooking dinner at home, the ALDI off of South Cicero Avenue and Pete's Fresh Market provide convenient options. For something to eat, there are plenty of national chain favorites located off Lincoln Highway, alongside a few locally owned spots like Hidden Manna Café. This warm, family-owned Cajun restaurant is known for being featured on "Chicago's Best" and serves a Southern-style breakfast and lunch as well as dinner on the weekends. After getting the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer, patrons can try the New Orleans pasta or bourbon shrimp and rice. When craving Asian food, A. Fusion is a modern, loftlike destination with a menu of Pan-Asian cuisine, a sushi bar and a selection of cocktails and wine. Banks recommends Vintrendi Wine Company for fans of wine. This Black-owned winery offers live music and entertainment alongside hand-made, artisan wines.Heading outdoors in West Matteson
