Mayflower is a small central Arkansas city of about 2,400 conveniently located along the Interstate 40 corridor between Conway and Little Rock. Before the interstate connected the community to the region’s two largest cities, there was Lake Conway, which remains the city’s main attraction. The Arkansas River is also nearby, making the city an attractive destination for outdoor recreation. “I would say rural life would be the main appeal, and affordability,” says Cason Barnhill of Keller Williams Realty – Little Rock, who has sold several homes in Mayflower.

Lakefront, other home options offer "more for your money"
Homes built primarily from the 1950s through the present day can be found throughout the community. Midcentury designs with carports and more contemporary designs with attached garages on spacious lots are prominent among traditional neighborhood housing. These offerings are concentrated in and around the heart of the community. Newly built model homes in planned developments can be found nearby. A diverse mix of established homes with related waterfront amenities graces the shores of Lake Conway. The median sales price is $235,000. “You get more for your money in Mayflower as a whole,” Barnhill says. The community’s proximity to the lake means that residents will experience hot, humid summers. Winters are typically mild. Storms are most common in the spring, and there is the risk of an occasional tornado.

Lake Conway is known for its fishing
Residents enjoy enviable access to Lake Conway, the largest man-made Game & Fish Commission lake in the United States. The 6,700-acre lake is known mostly for its stock of bass, crappie and catfish. It is currently being drained as part of a multi-year renovation to replace infrastructure, increase access and improve habitats. The Arkansas River provides even more adventures for outdoors enthusiasts. Residents can really get in touch with nature at nearby Bell Slough Wildlife Management Area. Three schools make up the Mayflower School District
The Mayflower School District, which earns a B-minus from Niche, consists of three schools that serve about 1,000 students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. Mayflower Elementary School, which earns a B, is the highest rated of the three. Mayflower Middle and Mayflower High schools are rated B-minus. Mayflower High is planning to add a school-based health center that will be open to the public.
Mayflower Elementary School serves students in grades pre-kindergarten through four.
Mayflower Middle School serves grades five through eight.
Mayflower High School serves grades nine through twelve.

Shopping and dining options are prevalent in Conway, Little Rock
A small collection of stores and restaurants is concentrated along the Arkansas Highway 365 commercial corridor, which runs through the community. “For a date night, you’d to Conway or Little Rock,” Barnhill says. Several shopping centers are among the many retail options in Conway, and downtown Little Rock’s River Market district is known as a regional dining and entertainment hot spot.

1-40 provides easy access to amenities of nearby cities
Conway, known as the “City of Colleges,” is about 10 miles away via I-40. The University of Central Arkansas is the city’s premier school, and it features the Conway Symphony Orchestra. I-40 also provides easy access to the attractions of downtown Little Rock, about 20 miles away. Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport and several top-tier medical centers are conveniently located in the state capital as well. Little Rock Air Force Base in nearby Jacksonville is one of the state’s top employers and about a 30-minute drive from Mayflower. The community’s Cap Index Crime Score of 2-out-of-10 is lower than the national average.
