Rich Township offers country living close to daily comforts
Deep in the countryside of southeast Michigan, Rich Township offers homes along wide-open roads while still within proximity to several small cities and villages. “It’s mostly farmland,” says Realtor Taylor Donley of Donley Realty, who lives in neighboring Burlington Township. “This is definitely country living.” Rich Township is a close drive from nearby cities like Lapeer and Imlay City. It’s also about 40 miles to Flint and about 90 miles to downtown Detroit. With plenty of open space, natural scenery and fresh air, Rich Township could be the country feel you’ve been looking for in southeast Michigan.
Homes on large lots provide privacy and peaceful surroundings
The township is home to about 1,600 residents, and encompasses the village of Silverwood, a tiny unincorporated community with a small outcropping of homes, a post office and a restaurant. Within Silverwood, there’s a mix of cozy ranch homes, cottages and some two-story homes whose lots back up to wide-open fields and farmland. The rest of the township features homes nestled deep in the countryside on sprawling lots that can range from one acre to more than 15 acres. These homes' generous setbacks and natural surrounds offer residents plenty of peace and quiet. Home prices in the area range from as little as $75,000 for smaller homes with less acreage to between $200,000 to $300,000 for homes on lots with room to roam.
North Branch High School students can earn college credit
Students in the area will spend a lot of time in Mayville — most of the township is zoned for the Mayville Community School District, which includes Mayville Elementary School, Mayville Middle School and Mayville High School, all of which hold C ratings from Niche, an online school review site. Students in the southeastern portion of the township attend schools in nearby North Branch, including North Branch Elementary School, Ruth Fox Middle School and North Branch High School, all of which hold B ratings from Niche. North Branch High School offers community college dual enrollment and AP courses to help students get a jumpstart on their college career.
Skate park and hunting preserve add variety to outdoor options
Avid golfers can enjoy the rolling fairways and greens at Greenbriar Golf Course. The course twists and turns through the meadows and forests in the heart of Rich Township, providing residents with a great place to enjoy the outdoors. The area is also home to Janks Pheasant Farm, a 200-acre preserve where locals can bring their hunting gear and dogs to practice pheasant hunting. Nearby Mayville also offers a skatepark where kids can bring their skateboards and scooters.
Locals pick up essentials Mayville and shop big-box stores in Lapeer
Silverwood has a single restaurant, Hollywood & Vine, where the community gathers for dinner, drinks and game nights. For everything else, the township is just southeast of the village of Mayville, where locals can pick up everyday essentials at Dollar General, Wingert’s Pharmacy or Neiman’s Family Market, a family-owned grocer that’s been operating since 1983 and has expanded to four stores across southeast and central Michigan. For a night out, residents can check out Lane’s Lanes & Mead’s Tavern, a small-town bowling alley and restaurant with an active league. Big box stores and major grocery chains like The Home Depot, Walmart, Kroger and Meijer can be found in the city of Lapeer, about 18 miles south of Rich Township.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
